The person in this role will ensure that key customer-facing metrics accurately reflect the expectations of customers, that these metrics are consistently applied across the business, communicated to key stakeholders, and used to continuously improve the performance of the business. Additionally, the Quality Manager leads the Quality organization, and works closely with Engineering, Operations, Sales & Marketing, Service & Repair, Customer Service, and IT teams. This person will instill a sense of urgency with regards to the MTS Quality System and be a dynamic driver of change.
- Ensure customer expectations are accurately reflected in KPIs, specifications and requirements and communicated to key personnel within the organization.
- Interface regularly with key internal and external customers to understand their expectations, review their assessment of MTS performance and communicate improvement activities and corrective actions.
- Work with process owners to improve customer satisfaction by continually enhancing processes that most significantly affect customer Key Performance Indicators (KPIs).
- Develop, implement, communicate, and maintain a quality plan to keep the MTS' Quality Systems and Policies in compliance with quality system requirements.
- Proactively assess the effectiveness of Sales, Order Fulfillment, Engineering, Sourcing, Manufacturing, and Service quality systems through (internal and external) process audits. Work with appropriate leaders to drive corrective and preventative actions as needed.
- Ensure compliance with relevant national and international standards, including governmental codes and regulations.
- Support external audits (both customer and agency) assuring proper preparation and closure of any findings identified during the audit.
- Manage and lead the Global QMS quality/EHS systems for MTS
- Lead the quality certification activities associated with the ISO-9001, ISO 14001, and OSHA 18001 Quality Management System (QMS) for the Eden Prairie facility and others as covered by EP certifications.
- Leads partnerships with affiliate (or other local) office quality and EHS representatives.
- Drive continuous improvement using lean principles and the ITW toolbox. Foster a culture of structured problem solving by promoting systematic root cause analysis methods on quality issues. Maintain metrics to ensure timely implementation of corrective actions.
- Collect, analyze, and summarize defect data from internal processes, internal testing, suppliers, production, and the field. Communicate findings and work with appropriate leaders to compel improvements to product, processes, or standards.
- Manage and lead the Quality Notice (QN) and Non-Conforming Material (NCM) processes
- Track and monitor material and product quality issues. Coordinate investigations on non-conforming materials and products. Lead root cause analysis sessions with teams (locally, globally), while also ensuring containment and effective corrective actions are in place.
- Coordinate with Supplier Quality team in global sourcing on supplier quality issues to ensure timely resolution, and improvements.
- Manage and maintain the global Corrective Action System (CAS).
- Ensure that appropriate business concerns are elevated and that corrective action requests are created, defined, assigned, and planned in a rigorous manner.
- Track progress by assigned teams and develop appropriate metrics to assure that responsible organizations are completing actions in a timely manner.
- Assure rigorous closure criteria are used in completing corrective actions.
- Define and track quality metrics for key processes. Establish and implement metrics to measure and maintain process performance and improvements.
- Collaboratively work with Project Engineering and Service teams to improve the systematic collection and analysis of post-shipment quality concerns including during installation, commissioning, warranty, and post-warranty.
- Lead the activities of the Inspection team (incoming and in -process) and assist addressing daily and current inspection challenges.
- Lead, develop and manage the quality team by Inspiration, support, and encouragement of team members toward common goals.
- Other duties & responsibilities as required by the business.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in engineering, management, or operations
- Seven or more years of Quality experience including the use of structured problem-solving tools and implementing Quality Systems. (similar to ISO9001)
- 3 or more years of working in an original equipment manufacturing (OEM) environment.
- Successful track record in implementing Quality culture from Design to Service by working across the business with cross functional teams.
- Successful direct customer experience developing plans and implementing actions that increased quality metrics and customer satisfaction
- Strong Quality Auditing principles and training as an internal auditor
- ASQ Certified Quality Manager preferred
- Strong track record in leading/building high performing teams
- Ability to travel globally (up to 10%)
