As the Quality Manager for Vulcan Industries you will have full authority over the VI Quality System. The Quality Manager should be familiar with a variety of the field's concepts, practices, and procedures. Relies on extensive experience and judgment to plan and accomplish goals. Performs a variety of complicated tasks. A wide degree of creativity and latitude is expected.

The Quality Manager is responsible for:

  • Personnel actions and overseeing day-to-day operations of Quality Technicians on both first and second shifts.
  • Writing, revising, implementing, and distributing Vulcan Industries Quality System Manual (QSM) to VI personnel and customers as requested.
  • Management of Global Shop System (GSS) quality module including implementation with QA Techs, deployment to plant operations, and coordination of updates with VI IT department.
  • Preparing monthly VI Quality reports; scheduling and chairing the VI monthly Quality meeting.
  • Supervising QA Tech inspections of products for conformity to customer and engineering specifications.
  • Supervising QA Tech inspections of customer returned goods, completion of Quality portion of Returned Material Authorization (RMA) forms, and communication of RMA inspection results to Project Mangers.
  • Supervising QA Tech inspections of purchased domestic and imported goods for conformity to engineering specifications.
  • Supervising examination of product for flatness, straightness and defects. Verifies dimensions of product, using micrometers, gages, tapes and templates.
  • Supervising assembly of products to verify fit of parts, adherence to engineering drawings, adherence to bills of material, and adherence to instruction sheets.
  • Operating mechanical and electrical test equipment to check apparatus for conformance to standard requirements.
  • Rejects products not meeting specifications and reports defects to appropriate personnel.
  • Authorized to inspect, tag, and initial first articles per Vulcan Industries Quality System.
  • Authorized to investigate, determine, and complete Non-Conforming Material Rejection (NCMR) disposition entry into GSS quality module.
  • Authorized to enter Job Status Change Requests (JSCR).

Basic Qualifications:

  • At least 2 years demonstrated work history in a quality role within a manufacturing environment.
  • Perform basic math operations with all units of measure. Compute ratio and percent.
  • Attention to detail.
  • Ability to read blueprints, job and technical instructions.
  • Ability to write test results using simple sentences, series of numbers, names and addresses.
  • Must be able to communicate clearly and effectively in a team environment.
  • Good computer skills.
  • Must have college associates degree or equivalent.

Preferred Skills and Qualifications:

  • Bachelors degree in engineering, Quality Management or a related field.
  • Strong understanding of quality assurance processes, methodologies, and relevant standards (e.g. ISO 9001).
  • Excellent problem solving and analytical skills.
  • Knowledge of Lean Manufacturing Continuous Improvement processes and root cause analysis techniques.
  • Familiarity with ERP/MRP systems (e.g. Global Shop Solutions).

Other Skills

  • Ability to operate or learn to operate various machines, such as plant equipment and machinery, scales, tape measure, control gauges, computer keyboard, micrometers, calipers and protractor.

Working Conditions

  • Inside, non-climate-controlled environment, variable workdays and hours. Some noise and vibration. Overtime will be required.

  • Lift up to 50 lbs. occasionally.

Performance Standards Required

  • Testing performed to meet Vulcan Industries Quality standards and customer quality requirements consistent with company work and safety regulations.
