Position Overview OMG currently operates in two Divisions: OMG Roofing Products and FastenMaster®. OMG Roofing Products is a leading global manufacturer and supplier of value-added components for the commercial roofing industry. The FastenMaster Division manufactures and markets innovative, premium quality wood-to-wood fasteners that are engineered to enable professional contractors to complete building projects safer, faster, and easier. The quality of our products and services is critical to the success of our company and our customers. The Quality Technician evaluates products and processes for compliance with appropriate specifications and requirements. This key position performs routine and special tests and inspections, trains operators on quality procedures, prepares summaries of collected data to support other internal departments and works directly and independently with Manufacturing, Product Development, Engineering, and other departments to drive compliance and achievement of our Quality goals. Position Responsibilities
- Promote Safety as the Number One priority of all OMG employees.
- Conduct production sampling. Pull representative samples of current production, label and maintain for real-time and future quantitative testing as defined by OMG guidelines.
- Conduct periodic physical measurements of WIP and finished product using scales, verniers, dial indicators, calipers, electronic indicators, pressure sensing instruments, and other more complex instruments, both mechanical and electronic.
- Perform routine and special tests and inspections of Sourced Finished Goods and Finished Goods suppliers for adherence to process and quality specifications.
- Complete routine visual checks for verification to ensure that all products meet or exceed OMG quality expectations.
- Serve as a subject matter quality control area expert to provide guidance for any subjective visual, dimensional or specification related quality issues that may arise during production within an area.
- Work in conjunction with peers to correctly identify, isolate, communicate, and document any issues and/or out of specification conditions or product.
- Responsible for carrying out all necessary raw material testing and retesting.
- Troubleshoot any quality control related equipment issues in real time.
- Ensure that the lab of work area is clean, neat and set-in-order.
- Develop ideas and implement solutions for continuous improvement with the Quality Group to drive lean and standardization.
- Perform in-house calibration procedures for measurement equipment and maintain a gage management system.
- Maintain accurate and thorough records of all test results and reports on any noted issues and/or deviations from specification.
- Fill in as needed for other Quality Group roles to ensure quality control responsibilities are adequately covered.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
RequirementsPosition Requirements
- High school diploma or equivalent required.
- Technical experience or associate degree in a related discipline, additional education in Statistical Quality Control/Statistical Process-Control, Six Sigma, or related coursework is preferred.
- At least 2 years of manufacturing or quality experience in an industrial environment.
- Strong analytical, mathematical, organizational, and communication skills.
- Strong problem-solving and time-management skills.
- Team-oriented approach with a desire to work in a hands-on capacity.
- Excellent PC skills including experience with MS Office Suite.
- Positive attitude and good judgment.
- Strong sense of responsibility and ownership.
- Positive can-do attitude.
Physical Requirements
- Ability to work in high noise areas and wear appropriate hearing protection devices.
- Manual material handling involving the need to grip, squeeze, and pinch.
- The position requires the ability to regularly stand for long periods of time.
- The position requires good close vision and depth perception.
- Ability to walk, stand, stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl, use hands to handle, or feel objects, tools, or controls, reach with hands and arms, climb or balance; and occasionally lift/push/pull/carry up to 50 pounds.
