Job Description :
SUMMARY The R & D/Engineering Technician will work closely with the R & D and Engineering teams to support R & D projects and help develop innovative products. The R & D/Engineering Technician will be able to operate independently, manage several projects at once, keep accurate records, and execute or support testing, prototyping and other NPD activities. This position requires an individual who works well in a team setting and as an independently motivated contributor to ensure projects are accomplished with exceptional quality and on time. This position requires good critical thinking, problem solving and communication skills. PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Works closely with the R & D and Engineering groups to support important projects and help develop new products.
  • Performs R & D tests/feasibility tests and gathers required data.
  • Assists in R & D prototyping, jig or test fixture prototyping and NPD prototyping.
  • Assist in materials and processes research.
  • Conducts or assists with laboratory thermal tests using approved processes, equipment, and materials.
  • Assists with compiling, analyzing, interpreting, and documenting results.
  • Assist in applying first principle/scientific method thinking to problem solving.
  • Writes technical documentation to required standards; to include engineering memos, testing protocols and reports, performance summaries, and project presentations.
  • Cultivate and grow general technical knowledge to provide technical product support to customers and colleagues within Sales and other internal departments, recommending appropriate solutions where required.
  • Support continuous improvement projects on current products
  • Provide technical support and research for sustainability projects
  • Recognize problems and initiate troubleshooting steps to evaluate testing failures and other problems.
  • Assist in Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) creation.
  • Ensures adherence to all procedures and processes set up within the Quality System.
  • Manages and prioritizes projects and plans effectively to ensure deadlines are met.
  • Follows company policies and practices as outlined in Handbook and follow guidelines regarding safety as outline in the AWAIR, and other safety procedures in accordance with the job.
  • Performs additional duties as assigned.
JOB REQUIREMENTS
  • Minimum 2-year A.S. in Engineering Technology; a 4-year B.S. in Engineering Technology preferred.
  • Minimum 2 to 3 years work experience
  • Knowledge of basic thermodynamic and mechanical engineering principles
  • Ability to follow procedures and methods and work well on a self-directed team. Must be computer literate with good communication and time management skills.
    • Proficient in MS Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook).
    • SolidWorks experience a plus but not required.
    • Minitab experience a plus
  • Capable of clear and concise communication of technical data, both written and oral.
  • Hands on shop assembly and/or machining experience a plus
  • Requires exceptional attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Creative, with ability to implement new ideas.
  • Good critical thinking and problem-solving skills.
  • Exposure and knowledge of sustainability projects a plus
  • Must be able to interact effectively and cooperatively with employees at all levels.
  • Must have time and project management ability to lead and manage projects. Must be willing to be proactive, take initiative and follow-up to ensure project deadlines are met.
  • Ability to prioritize and oversee multiple projects in a fast-paced environment. Effective time management skills, organizational skills, and ability to meet deadlines.
  • Must have excellent documentation skills.
  • Must be able to work independently and within a team environment.
  • Must be flexible regarding working hours and overtime. Must be able to work overtime in the evenings and weekends, with or without advanced notice.
  • Ability for some limited travel.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS AND WORKING CONDITIONS While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to execute physical activities within the lab and production areas (i.e. stand, walk, sit, climb or balance, stoop, kneel, crouch). Ability to lift and/or move up to 10 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 40 pounds.The approximate base compensation range is shown below.
