Hours:

Primarily 8am to 4pm, may need to start earlier or end later depending on patient care needs. On-call required.

Summary:

The Radiology Advanced Practice Provider (APP) practices in accordance with and works in collaboration with an Attending Radiologist. The Radiology APP exercises autonomy in decision-making, while providing expert Interventional Radiology procedures and Imaging skills. The APP will work at multiple Catholic Health System (CHS) sites on a rotational and as-needed basis. In addition, the APP will take scheduled/rotational call.

The primary scope of practice includes performing image guided procedures in the Radiology department, inpatient bedside and outpatient Radiology clinics. The Radiology APP will also perform consultations, collect history and perform physical examinations for Interventional Radiology patients. The Radiology APP has the potential to be involved in all phases of care including but not limited to, preprocedural consultation, periprocedural interventions and post procedure follow-ups.

The Radiology APP will evaluate images and review preliminary reports with a supervising/collaborating Radiologist, as well as prepare technical reports that will be reviewed and signed off by the supervising/collaborating Radiologist.

Responsibilities:

EDUCATION

Graduate of an accredited college or university with a degree as a Physician Assistant approved program with recorded certification or licensed Nurse Practitioner in New York State (NYS); current NYS license. Physician Assistant school approved by the National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistants (NCCPA), Committee on Allied Health Education and Accreditation (CAHEA), and accredited by the American Medical Association (AMA) OR graduate of American Registry of Radiological Technologists (ARRT) approved Radiologist Assistant educational program

Licensed Physician Assistant or Nurse Practitioner in New York with current NYS license

Physician Assistants and Nurse Practitioners who are also licensed Radiological Technologists (not required) must maintain ARRT certification and a New York State license as a Radiological Technologist

Registered Radiologist Assistants must possess and maintain ARRT certification in Radiography ARRT (R) and a New York State license as a Radiological Technologist

EXPERIENCE

3 years as a practicing Physician Assistant or Nurse Practitioner required

5 years as a practicing Radiological Technologist prior to achieving status as a Registered Radiologist Assistant OR 1 year experience as a practicing Registered Radiologist Assistant preferred

Experience performing clinical procedural work preferred

Experience working in an imaging department preferred

KNOWLEDGE, SKILL, AND ABILITY

Must have good verbal and written communication skills. Communication skills which may be inclusive of approach, tone of voice, speed of communication, respectfulness and non-verbal communication

Good standing with Medical Staff Office

Accomplished at establishing trust, developing strong working relationships with a range of audiences including patients, Radiologists, Imaging Technologists, Radiology Nurses, referring physicians, inpatient clinical units, and hospital/Imaging leadership

Strong critical thinking skills

Knowledge and ability to maintain compliance with Joint Commission on Accreditation of Healthcare Organizations (JCAHO), NYS Department of Health, Mammography Quality Standards Act (MQSA) and other applicable regulatory agencies

Ability to maintain clinical/procedural competencies

Ability to multitask

WORKING CONDITIONS:

Frequent sitting, standing, walking

Works in office areas and patient rooms throughout various facilities

Work hours are varied. Work beyond normal working hours or weekend covering as necessary

Exposed to infectious diseases and uses appropriate personal protective equipment Works in an environment where ionizing radiation is produced
