Performs a variety of imaging procedures and is responsible for patient safety protocols. Functions as the first line interface with customers in the successful accomplishment of their imaging needs.Duties and Responsibilities:
- Responsible for the care and safety of patients undergoing imaging exams and procedures.
- Responsible to the proper use of equipment to minimize hazards of electrical shock or burns to patients, self and others.
- Responsible for safe handling of equipment and images.
- Instructs and prepares patients for radiographic and CT examinations.
- Selects appropriate equipment and techniques to minimize radiation to patients, self and others.
- Determines most suitable anatomical positions and shields patients accordingly.
- Able to assess patient pain interfering with imaging procedure - makes appropriate provider contact for intervention.
- Performs all aspects of patient care in an environment that optimizes patient safety and reduces the likelihood of medical/healthcare errors.
- Performs imaging with CT scanner, portable and stationary x-ray equipment and produces quality images for a variety of examinations.
- Utilize the RIS and PACS systems for optimal workflow.
- Processes images without difficulty.
- Practices medical and surgical aseptic procedures.
- Assists in maintaining files, basic records and reports.
- Assists in training of students and ancillary personnel as needed.
- Interacts professionally with providers, patients, family and visitors.
- Is acquainted with local fire and safety regulations.
- Has knowledge of hospital policies and the functions of other departments.
- Provides care appropriate to condition and age of the patient, including, pediatric, geriatric and general population.
- Clearly marks images with patient demographics and laterality.

- Adheres to dress code standards; appearance is neat and clean.
- Communicates appropriately and clearly with radiologists, providers, staff, administration, patients and visitors.
- Completes annual educational requirements.
- Maintains regulatory requirements, including all state, federal and CMS regulations.
- Maintains and ensures patient confidentiality at all times.
- Reports to work on time and as scheduled; completes work within designated time.
- Wears identification while on duty; uses computerized time/attendance system correctly.
- Attends annual review and departmental in-services, as scheduled.
- Attends staff meetings, reads all staff meeting minutes if absent from meeting.
- Maintains hospital requirements, policies and standards of conduct.
- Resolves personnel concerns at the departmental level, utilizing the grievance process as required.
- Ensures compliance with policies and procedures regarding departmental operations, including; fire, safety and infection control.
- Actively participates in performance improvement and continuous quality improvement (CQI) activities.
- Complies with all organizational policies regarding ethical business practices.
- Communicates the mission, vision, core values, ethics and goals of the hospital. Represents the organization in a positive and professional manner.
Regulatory Requirements:
- High School graduate.
- Graduate from an accredited school of Radiologic Technology.
- Registered by the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists.
- Certified by the State of Kansas to practice and administer radiation (or become certified within 1 year of hire date).
- Current BLS certification.
