These could include bad-order forms, car-repair estimates, and records of billable repairsEnsure compliance with all AAR and FRA standards, abide by Savage's railcar repair quality control programPerform “running” repairs on railcars as they exit or enter the facilityMonitoring all repairs and supplies consumed for accurate inventory and billing to railcar fleet ownersUse Customer provided software on Savage provided devices to update information about all railcarsAssist railcar repairmen as inspection and railcar repair volume needs allowWork with two-four other crew members to safely perform railcar repairs and movementsProvide front-line compliance with Operation Clean Sweep and Savage 5S cleanliness and orderliness standardsSupport logistics or admin coordinators in their pursuit of billing for railcar repairsRequirements of a successful Rail Inspector :4 years of journeyman experience requiredBubble leak knowledge preferred or Level 2 certifiedBackground in railcar handling preferredTWIC credentials or ability to obtain TWIC credentials requiredFamiliarity with removing, repairing, and replacing defective components including wheels, safety appliances, truck and brake equipment, couplers, yokes, draft gears, and air brake valvesComplete basic data entry tasks in a computer or logbook to track consumption of parts and completion of workRead, write, and understand EnglishFollow written and/or verbal instructions with minimal supervisionDependable and shows up on time and prepared to work for scheduled work shiftsPass drug / alcohol test / criminal background check required for onboardingHere are some of the physical requirements of this role:Railcar repair crews will work both indoors and outdoors every day and as a result will be exposed to the elementsRailcar repairmen must be physically able to do the following:Climb on and off railcars and locomotives safelyOperate railcar hand brakes and switchesMust have the ability to work, walk, and stand on uneven ballast surfaces for long periods of time – at least 2-3 miles per day of walking can be expectedLift up to 75 lbs. without accommodationsUse hand and power tools proficientlyAdditional Information:A complete job description is available upon requestSavage is an Equal Opportunity Employer and maintains a drug-free workplaceCalifornia Residents Job Application Privacy Notice DetailsJob Family Skilled PlayerPay Type Hourly
