Job Title: Raw Materials Purchasing Manager

Location: Detroit, MI

Employment Type: Full-time, On-site (Must be local to Detroit, MI)

Salary: $110,000 - $120,000 per year + Bonus

Job Description:

We are looking for a dedicated Raw Materials Purchasing Manager to take charge of our purchasing activities related to rubber compounds, rubber mixing ingredients, and plastic resins. This role requires a deep understanding of market cost drivers and manufacturing practices, as well as the ability to implement strategic plans that meet both present and long-range material cost goals.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Manage the procurement of rubber compounds and plastic resins.
  • Lead the development and execution of negotiation strategies with suppliers.
  • Ensure buyers demonstrate strong competencies in problem-solving, negotiation, and quote analysis.
  • Build and maintain collaborative relationships with program teams globally and locally.
  • Initiate corrective actions to address nonconformities in products, processes, and systems.
  • Review and finalize sourcing recommendations from program buyers.
  • Focus on lowering Bill of Materials costs through effective product development management and design changes.
  • Align customer requirements across the supply base and develop material value driver projects.
  • Create and implement commodity and supplier strategies in partnership with engineering and program buyers.
  • Manage supplier negotiations to ensure the best costs for new business opportunities.
  • Ensure compliance with purchasing policies and procedures.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Business, Supply Chain Management, or a related field.
  • A minimum of 5+ years of experience in industrial purchasing and supervisory roles.
  • Strong understanding of purchasing methods, theories, and legal aspects.
  • Excellent communication, organizational, and interpersonal skills.
  • Proven ability to foster supplier relationships and conduct cost analysis effectively.
  • Professional certifications such as CPM or CPIM are very desirable.
