Job Description :The New York Post provides readers with the best in News, Sports, Pop Culture, Fashion and Entertainment - with signature wit, irreverence and authority averaging 90 million unique viewers a month. Over the past 223 years, The Post has evolved into a multi-platform media company spanning print, digital, video, audio, app, television and commerce.The New York Post digital team is looking for a full-time Reporter, Real Estate (Monday - Friday, 9 a.m. - 5 p.m.) who's well-versed and deeply sourced in the worlds of New York City and national residential real estate. The candidate must be an independent and highly motivated self-starter with strong industry contacts, the ability and willingness to connect with more, access to exclusive tips, knowledge of local and national real-estate databases - and a journalist whose writing is lively and informative. The candidate will write short-form breaking stories on fast deadlines - whether from market reports, new listings or aggregated from other sources - and also spend their days working on reporting longer-lead features. This could include human-nature stories on the quirky ways New Yorkers live, deep dives into controversial properties - whether the subject of litigation or lengthy spells for sale - and listings that lend themselves to long-form writing, such as those with celebrity pasts, superlative prices or deep historical ties.
Responsibilities:- Pitch and craft engaging daily articles relevant to a Post readership and The Post's voice under tight deadlines, and with SEO optimization in mind
- Produce a variety of stories, such as aggregated pieces for web and longer features to pitch for the daily newspaper
- Generate daily pitches that will keep readers coming back, with high quality and potential for good traffic in mind
- Stay plugged in and abreast of happenings in the residential real estate industry, such as properties listing for record prices, celebrity transactions and even updates to market data, like rents rising or cooling in big national markets.
- Report and write articles with precision and accuracy, and strong adherence to the highest professional standards
- Attend industry events and budget time for source meetings to develop connections with brokers and publicists to keep stories coming
Requirements:- Bachelor's or Master's degree in journalism or related field
- At least three years of experience as a real estate reporter, preferably residential real estate
- Exceptional writing skills with a keen understanding of fact-checking and SEO principles
- A creative thinker with an ability to find fun approaches to stories and to be receptive to feedback
- Strong knowledge of trends in residential real estate, both locally and nationally
- Ability to work under pressure to meet tight deadlines while maintaining the highest standards
- Proficiency in WordPress or a similar CMS
