Salary : $20,800.00 Annually Location : Albany, GA Job Type: Internship Job Number: 23-01-018 Department: Recreation Division: Centers & Gyms Opening Date: 02/02/2023 Closing Date: Continuous The Position The purpose of this classification is to perform assistant level work in organizing, planning, scheduling, and directing social, creative, athletic, and educational activities for youth, adults, senior citizens, and citizens with special needs. Duties Assists in planning, organizing and scheduling of recreational activities; assists in monitoring activities; enforces safety rules and regulations. Receives and/or prepares a variety of reports, forms, announcements, sign-up sheets, score sheets, applications, accident reports, work orders, and invoices; may monitor and process time sheets; processes, records, files and/or distributes/submits to appropriate personnel. Assists in monitoring maintenance of facilities and equipment; may clean and maintain facilities and/or grounds. Assists in monitoring availability of recreation equipment and supplies; issues and collects equipment; assists in ordering and stocking equipment and supplies; picks up equipment and supplies as directed. Answers telephones and responds to questions or complaints from participants, recreation officials, department personnel, and the general public; provides information and/or relays messages to appropriate personnel as needed. Serves as mediator to resolve problems with participants/spectators; administers first aid in the event of injury; secures medical or law enforcement personnel as needed. Builds relationships with participants; may coach or assist in coaching youth teams; supervises and/or assists participants in various programs and activities; may operate scoreboard. Assists in supervising part-time employees, volunteers, and seasonal employees; may assist in securing sports officials, score keepers, coaches, seasonal employees, and related personnel. May assist in the hosting of special events; may assist with special programs, i.e. Square Dancing, Adult Free Play Basketball, Ceramic Program, and/or others. Secures building and facilities. Attends staff meetings as required. Minimum Qualifications Currently enrolled in a college/university as a junior or senior; or enrolled in their second year of a technical college. Must be a United States citizen or authorized to work in the United States Seeking students within the program of study: Business Administration, Business Management, Public Administration or related fields Pass a drug screen and background check Current earned grade point average of 2.5 or better No relative of the Mayor, any Commissioner, the City Manager, or any staff member of the Office of Human Resources shall occupy an Internship position with the City; in addition, relatives of city employees shall not be assigned an internship if such arrangement will result in one relative supervising another relative, or where one relative occupies a position which influences the relative's internship position.
