Under general supervision, this position will assist the Recreation Supervisor in planning, organizing, and conducting various center programs and activities, provide front-desk customer service, and perform related work as required.FLSA Status: Non-Exempt Examples of Duties
- Assists in the overall planning, organizing, and conducting of various recreation activities including youth programs, teen programs, after-school programs, summer camp, special events, and outreach initiatives;
- Provides customer service at the front desk of the South Greenville Recreation Center;
- Answers telephone, provides the public with needed information, and takes registration and reservations for activities, programs, and rentals;
- Assists with training, scheduling, supervising, and evaluating part-time staff and volunteers;
- Initiates and organizes new activities as needed;
- Assists in requisitioning and inventorying of supplies and materials and other equipment needed for the center;
- Assists in the preparation of publicity materials and in publicizing events;
- Prepares center utilization reports;
- Opens and closes South Greenville Recreation Center as needed;
- Serves on various departmental training and planning committees;
- Performs other related duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications Education and Experience:
- Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in recreation, physical education, leisure studies, or closely related field; and
- One year of recreation or related experience.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIESKnowledge of:
- principles, practices, and techniques of recreation administration;
- customer service techniques;
- policies and regulations affecting the operation of an athletic center;
- first aid, CPR, and AED techniques
Skill in:
- using athletic tools and equipment;
- using office equipment, including computers and related software.
Ability to:
- assist in planning, organizing, and supervising various center activities;
- assist in creating league game schedules and tournament brackets;
- assist in the training, supervising, and evaluating part-time staff and other seasonal employees for programs;
- provide quality customer service;
- communicate effectively orally and in writing;
- follow oral and written instructions;
- operate assigned equipment, including computer equipment and various software packages;
- meet the mental and physical demands of the position;
- work cooperatively with City officials, other employees, and the general public;
- work safely without presenting a direct threat to self or others.
Special Requirements
- Valid North Carolina driver's license and acceptable driving record;
- Must possess (or obtain within 90 days of hire) and maintain valid Red Cross First Aid, AED, and CPR certifications;
- Requires working a varied schedule to include nights and weekends.
