This position is located at SDCC, Main Campus. Candidates selected for this position will serve as a Recreation Assistant, Full-Time hours could include weekends, evenings, and holidays.Major DutiesThe Recreation Assistant will assist the Recreation Therapy Manager in developing, organizing, and directing the recreation programming for the mental health treatment programs at San Diego Center for Children. Incumbent performs and/or assists in the daily operations of the assigned activity. Based on established policies, incumbent carries out assigned phases of designated activity applying an understanding of the interest and needs of program participants. May assist in planning, coordinating, scheduling, and publicizing various details of recreational programs and activities. Applying rules and regulations in supervising assigned youth participants in indoor and outdoor activities. Demonstrates procedures common to the activities and instructs in the use of related equipment or activity.ROLES AND RESPONSIBILITIESTo perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. - Assist with planning, organizing, implementing, and documenting recreation activities.
- Assists in assessment of youths' recreational needs.
- Provide leadership, supervision, accountability, vision, and support for t employees and initiatives across agency.
- Collaborates across all departments on program implementation, capacity building and quality improvement initiatives.
- Assist the Recreation Therapy Manager in developing/modifying the recreation program.
- Implement activity programming according to schedule. Assist consultants and volunteers as needed.
- Acts as liaison with counselors and SDCC Academy Staff. Communicates on an ongoing basis to determine the most appropriate activity program consistent with youth/student needs.
- Maintains recreation equipment in good working order. Notifies Supervisor of need for repair.
- Maintains orderliness of supplies and facilities. Informs supervisor of supplies needed on a monthly basis.
- Provides information/input related to treatment planning, consults with mental health therapist and clinical team as appropriate regarding youth needs and involvement in recreation program.
- Maintain knowledge of counselor responsibilities and duties, along with training.
- Perform special projects, assignments and other related duties as required.
- Immediately reports any unsafe acts, conditions, or accidents in their department and or organization to immediate supervisor.
- Maintain all required trainings current (Residential Counselor Training, CPR & First Aid, S.P.A Certification, False Claims, HIPPA, Safety, Trauma Informed Care, Title 22/STRTP, Behavioral Health, Accreditation and any others assigned) .
- San Diego Center for Children may redeploy staff as needed to ensure operational needs are meet for the safety of our organization, youth, and staff. For the purpose this position requires working during pandemic.

QualificationsMINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
- High School Diploma or equivalent
- Must be 21 years of age or older
- Valid California Driver's License
- Experience working with adolescents or children
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
- Bachelor's Degree (BA or BS) from a four-year university, with a focus on recreational therapy
- Related residential treatment care or special education experience
- Experience with coaching sports, art instruction, or facilitating recreation activities
- Familiar with Training in evidence-based practices.
