Description
Under general supervision, plans, organizes and implements recreational and other activities and is responsible for the operations of a municipal recreation center. The incumbent represents the Recreation Division within the community in which it serves.
Examples of Duties
* Responsible for the strategic vision of recreation, cultural programs, and healthy community initiatives for a specified municipal recreation center based on the assessed needs of the surrounding community.
* Create the assigned center's budget and manages alternative providers.
* Plan alternative resources to fulfill centers programs.
* Manage and supervise assigned paraprofessionals including planning and organizing workloads and staff assignments, training, motivating, and evaluating assigned staff, reviewing progress, and directing changes as needed.
* Provide leadership and direction in the development and implementation of short- and long-term strategic planning.
* Responsible for the financial management of the recreation center in accordance with industry standards utilizing diverse funding sources.
* Ensure that activities are properly conducted in accordance with city and department policies and procedures and recreational programs function as planned.
* Review program areas and implements changes or new programs to meet the recreational needs of the community. This may include assisting in development, maintenance, and implementation of current parks and recreation master plan.
* Conduct special activities including but not limited to children's parties, community programs, field day events, and basketball and playground ball leagues.
* Organize and arranges social functions, clubs, athletic leagues, and rentals.
* Consult with and advises individuals and community groups on recreation center use.
* Confer with and instructs assigned staff on current programs.
* Listen and responds to issues from employees, residents, and providers. Collects revenue and ensures all policies regarding cash are followed, including maintaining accurate and detailed financial records and making timely deposits.
* Create and fosters relationships for fundraising opportunities.
* Manage recreation center inventory and orders equipment and supplies as needed.
* Maintain records, collects pertinent data, and prepares seasonal reports and budgets.
* Ensure that buildings and grounds are properly cared for and makes timely requests for maintenance.
* Liaison to the district office.
Minimum Qualifications
* Bachelor's degree with specialization in physical education, recreation or a related field of study.
* Minimum of five (5) years of experience in public recreation conducting organized recreational activities and three (3) years of supervisory responsibility in similar activities within a community recreation center.

City Employees Retirement System
As a regular City employee you automatically become a member of the General Retirement System. This entitles you to a retirement allowance after:
* Completion of thirty (30) years of service;
* At age sixty (60) if you have at least ten (10) years of service, or
* At age sixty-five (65) with eight (8) years of service.
