Areas of assignment include Athletics, Fitness, Youth Camps, Recreation/Racket Center, custodial support and maintenance, and special events. Assists with a wide variety of events, classes, and programs. Ensures program facilities are properly maintained. Coordinates operations and activities of assigned recreation program area. Leads daily activities of assigned staff. Note: Position level and salary will be dependent on qualifications (DOQ). Working Conditions Primarily recreation center or outdoor environment. Often performs significantly strenuous work in varying and adverse weather conditions including rain, extreme heat and humidity, and long exposure to sunlight. Traverses uneven or slippery surfaces. High noise environment while performing certain responsibilities. Lifting and carrying equipment up to 50 pounds alone and up to 100 pounds with assistance. Periodically required to drive county vehicles as part of the duties of the job. Able to climb and descend equipment and ladders. Able to bend, stoop, crawl, and reach. Position requires visual acuity and depth perception, as well as ability to hear and identify sounds. Occasional high stress situations that may involve angry or frustrated citizens. Regularly required to work other than normal business hours including nights, holidays, and weekends. Job DescriptionESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: These are intended only as illustrations of the various types of work performed. The omission of specific duties does not exclude them from a position.All Areas of Assignment Assists with diversified recreation programs and services for all ages in accordance with community needs. Assists patrons with facility and program registration. Collects fees. Processes registrations and generates activity rosters. Assists with recreation facility rentals. Provides tours and information to prospective renters. Implements details outlined in rental agreements, as assigned. Responds to questions and concerns from patrons. Identifies issues and resolves problems or refers to supervisor as appropriate. Participates in community outreach efforts to promote recreation programs and stimulate interest. Provides excellent customer service. Assists with daily, monthly, and annual maintenance of facilities. Athletics Coordinates in-house youth and adult athletic leagues, with specific understanding and knowledge of Basketball, Football, and Softball. Organizes and markets programs, including scheduling and monitoring all aspect of the program, the participants, and contractual staff. Ensures compliment with all league rules and internal policies with an emphasis on attention to details. This staff person will be required to assist with Camps on an as needed basis. Minimum Qualifications Recreation Coordinator I: High school graduate or equivalent. 1 or more years of work experience in recreation or a field related to area of assignment, to include customer service and cash handling experience. Recreation Coordinator II: 3 or more years of work experience in recreation or a field related to area of assignment, to include customer service experience. Recreation Coordinator III: 5 or more years of work experience in recreation or a field related to area of assignment, to include customer service experience. All Levels Require: Community CPR and First Aid certifications required or must be obtained within 30 days of hire. If assigned to a role that will supervise children, a Level 2 background check is required within 30 days of hire. Valid driver license required with valid Florida driver license required within 30 days of hire. If assigned to the fitness program, personal training certification required within six (6) month of hire. A comparable combination of education, training, and work experience which provides the requisite knowledge, skills, and abilities for this position, may be substituted for the minimum qualifications. More Associates degree in recreation, education, business, public administration, or related field desired. Recreation Coordinator II: 3 or more years of work experience in recreation or a field related to area of assignment, to include customer service experience. Prior experience in a lead capacity desired. Recreation Coordinator III: 5 or more years of work experience in recreation or a field related to area of assignment, to include customer service experience. Prior experience in a lead capacity desired. Knowledge/Abilities/Skills Able to comprehend and follow oral and written instructions. Organizes own work and completes tasks within assigned time frames. Able to resolve routine situations and problems. Basic knowledge and understanding of the methods and techniques of planning, evaluating, and implementing recreation programs, services, and activities, especially as related to area of assignment. Good knowledge and understanding of all safety practices and procedures related to area of assignment. If required by area of assignment, basic knowledge and understanding of cash management, accounting, and record-keeping techniques. If assigned to Recreation/Racket Center, basic knowledge and understanding of the maintenance of clay tennis courts. General knowledge and understanding of regulatory compliance necessary to successfully perform job duties. General knowledge and understanding of computer applications and software programs required to perform job duties. Good written and verbal communication skills and interpersonal skills to be able to interact professionally and effectively with co-workers, management, volunteers, the general public, and other stakeholders. Able to communicate routine information. Capable of working under moderate supervision.
