Work Hours: 40 hours/week, variable daytime, evening and weekends to support the operational needs
Coordinates operations and activities of assigned recreation program area. Areas of assignment include Athletics, Fitness, Youth Camps, Recreation/Racket Center, custodial support and maintenance, and special events. Coordinates a wide variety of events, classes, and programs. Ensures program facilities are properly maintained. Leads daily activities of seasonal and part-time staff.
Working Conditions
Primarily recreation center or outdoor environment. Often performs significantly strenuous work in varying and adverse weather conditions including rain, extreme heat and humidity, and long exposure to sunlight. Traverses uneven or slippery surfaces. High noise environment while performing certain responsibilities. Lifting and carrying equipment up to 50 pounds alone and up to 100 pounds with assistance. Periodically required to drive county vehicles as part of the duties of the job. Able to climb and descend equipment and ladders. Able to bend, stoop, crawl, and reach. Position requires visual acuity and depth perception, as well as ability to hear and identify sounds. Occasional high stress situations that may involve angry or frustrated citizens. Regularly required to work other than normal business hours including nights, holidays, and weekends.

All Areas of Assignment
Oversees diversified recreation programs and services for all ages in accordance with community needs. Plans and directs the operations, services, staff, and activities of assigned recreation program area. Evaluates program effectiveness and recommends changes.
Leads the activities of staff and volunteers. Assigns work and ensures completion according to established standards, procedures, and timeframes. Assists and trains volunteers and less experienced team members.
Assists with the planning and development of recreation and facility policies and procedures. Implements policies and procedures as directed by management, and ensures compliance by staff, volunteers, and the general public.
Strictly adheres to safety procedures to protect self, co-workers, volunteers, and the general public. Maintains order and safety in crowded and noisy environments.
Serves as a county representative and resource for community agencies and other organizations. Attends and speaks at meetings, community and professional functions, and conferences, as assigned. Participates in community outreach efforts to promote recreation programs and stimulate interest.
Responds to questions and concerns from patrons. Identifies issues and resolves problems or refers to supervisor as appropriate.
Assists supervisor with budget development and management. Monitors inventory, orders supplies, and maintains purchase records within authorized budget. May oversee fee collection and accounting activities for area of assignment, reviewing records and files to ensure proper accounting and documentation consistent with Department policies and procedures.
Coordinates recreation facility rentals. Provides tours and information to prospective renters. Implements details outlined in rental agreements. Acts as Division representative to patrons, vendors, and participants to ensure events are properly executed with optimal satisfaction.
Responsible for daily, monthly, and annual maintenance of facilities.
Completes reporting and data analysis as assigned.
Attends job-specific training classes as assigned by supervisor.
Performs other related work (including weather or extreme emergency duties) as required.
John H. Marble
Job consists of in person customer service, cash handling and answering a high volume of phone calls. Greets patrons and visitors at the front desk, along with general front-end responsibilities such as processing fees, selling recreation-related merchandise, inventory management, reconciling daily transactions and room or gymnasium rentals. Will act as a lead with recreation programming and facility rentals. Will act as a point of contact for in-house and outside youth and adult athletic leagues. Coordinates and schedules facilities. Monitors league and patron compliance with facility rules and usage agreements. Assists Youth Camps staff on an as needed basis with facility use and programming. Sets up and tears down activities and events. Additionally, may provide fitness center equipment orientations to new members. Maintains a clean environment, including entry area, multipurpose rooms, gymnasium, and fitness center. May be asked to do child watch activities. May open and close facilities
High school graduate or equivalent.
Three (3) or more years of work experience in recreation or a field related to area of assignment, to include customer service experience.
Community CPR and First Aid certifications required or must be obtained within 30 days of hire.
If assigned to a role that will supervise children, a Level 2 background check is required within 30 days of hire.
Valid driver license required with valid Florida driver license required within 30 days of hire.
Equivalent combinations of education and experience may be considered.
Associate's Degree in recreation, education, business, public administration, or related field desired.
Prior experience in a lead capacity desired.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Able to prioritize tasks, deal effectively with competing and changing priorities, and meet deadlines. Accurate, detail-oriented, and organized. Able to resolve situations and problems that may require interpretation or minor adjustments to working methods.
Good knowledge and understanding of the methods and techniques of planning, evaluating, and implementing recreation programs, services, and activities, especially as related to area of assignment.
Good knowledge and understanding of all safety practices and procedures related to area of assignment.
If required by area of assignment, good knowledge and understanding of cash management, accounting, and record-keeping techniques.
If assigned to Recreation/Racket Center, good knowledge and understanding of the maintenance of clay tennis courts.
Good knowledge and understanding of regulatory compliance necessary to successfully perform job duties.
Good knowledge and understanding of computer applications and software programs required to perform job duties.
Good written and verbal communication skills and interpersonal skills, including public presentation skills, to be able to interact professionally and effectively with co-workers, management, volunteers, the general public, and other stakeholders. Able to communicate information that requires explanation or interpretation.
Capable of working under moderate supervision.
