  • Recreation Coordinator: $23.85-$25.82, hourly, depending on experience
  • Lead Recreation Coordinator: $58,656-$61,800, annually, depending on experience

About the JobThis posting is for one position, either the Recreation Coordinator or the Lead Coordinator, depending on qualifications and experience. This role: Under the direction of the Recreation Supervisor, the Recreation Coordinator and Lead Coordinator are responsible for managing, coordinating, and teaching the District's school age, family and adult programs with a focus on the Before and After Care programs and curriculum. Programming includes but is not limited to: Before and After School (B&A), Fall/Spring/Summer Break Camps, KC Nature Programs, and community/special events. This position collaborates with the other Recreation Coordinator on program development and implementation. Essential FunctionsThe following duties are an overview of the primary duties and responsibilities of the Recreation Coordinator and/or Lead Coordinator and should not be considered an all-inclusive list.
  • Manage the year-round, day-to-day operations of all school-age youth programming at all sites with a focus in the summer on the Ranch House programming.
  • In collaboration with the other Recreation Coordinator, oversee the Before and After School Program including administrative duties such as managing waitlist and communications. (Lead Coordinator will take the lead on these tasks)
  • Assist with hiring, recruiting, and onboarding processes for all part-time school year staff and site specific for summer seasonal staff. (Lead Coordinator will take the lead on these tasks)
  • Develop, coordinate, and teach program curriculum for all age groups in collaboration with the other Recreation Coordinator including but not limited to B&A, Fall/Spring/Summer break camps, and nature focused programs.
  • Perform administrative duties including program documentation related to licensing, and assist with program registration set-up, monitoring, and reporting in recreation program software. (Lead Coordinator will take the lead on these tasks)
  • Develop and maintain positive professional relationships with children, parents, and families in the youth programs through both verbal and written communication; navigate customer or parent feedback efficiently and with decorum.
  • Collaborate with the other Recreation Coordinator to supervise, train, and coach part-time and seasonal school age staff; recommend staff promotion/termination/reassignments to the Recreation Supervisor. (Lead Coordinator will take the lead on these tasks)
  • Lead Coordinator supervises, trains, and evaluates staff for adult, family and teen programming
  • Develops and facilitates training focused on customer service skills and establishes service standards.
  • Assist with the preparation and monitoring of the budget, manage revenues and expenditures. Develop and recommend program related costs, fees, and locations.
  • Lead Coordinator develops and monitors the Before and After School budget in addition to other assigned program areas.
  • Manages group dynamics and address behavior challenges with participants including facilitating parent conferences as applicable with oversight from the Recreation Supervisor
  • Conducts needs assessment to determine program components; implement changes and develop new programs to meet recreation needs of community with oversight from the Recreation Supervisor
  • Ensures that all programs comply with all applicable federal, state and local laws, and all District rules, policies and procedures.
  • Maintains knowledge and expertise on the Ken-Caryl Ranch open space and natural environment including but not limited to local wildlife, plant life, ecology, trail systems, culture, and history of the community. Attends workshops, conferences, and programs outside of Ken-Caryl Ranch to grow the services we are able to offer.
  • Lead Coordinator will participate in the marketing efforts of the District to increase exposure, support communications, and increase enrollment and participation in District recreation programs and activities.
  • Consistently promote a positive, professional image of the District and provide excellent customer service at all times.
  • Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
  • Knowledge, understanding, and application of positive classroom management, curriculum development, youth development, and behavior management techniques; knowledge and understanding of environmental science topics.
  • Knowledge of federal, state, and local laws applicable to the District's school age youth programs.
  • Be highly organized, punctual, flexible, and demonstrate compassion and patience.
  • Flexible and positive in an intense and dynamic work environment; utilizes creative problem solving within a sometimes challenging environment; ability to make quick, rational decisions in situations affecting the safety and wellbeing of program participants and possess the ability to carry out such decisions.
  • Effective and clear written and oral communicator with a variety of audiences including staff, parents, and supervisors.
  • Able to drive a 14 passenger mini bus and other applicable vehicles.
  • Ability to occasionally support other recreation programming including special events.
  • Ability to read, write, speak, and understand the English language at a level adequate to perform the job.
  • Develops and maintains positive, effective working relationships with District employees, District residents, program participants, the Ken-Caryl Ranch Master Association, other governmental agencies, and the community.
  • Required Experience: Must be Child Care Director certified (State Licensing Requirements).
    • The program director must have verifiable education or training in work with school-age children in such areas as recreation, education, scouting or 4-H; and the program director must have completed at least one of the following qualifications:
  • A four (4) year college degree with a major such as recreation, outdoor education, education with a specialty in art, elementary or early childhood education, or a subject in the human service field; or
  • Two years of college training and six (6) months (910 hours) of satisfactory and verifiable full-time or equivalent part-time, paid or volunteer, experience, since attaining the age of eighteen (18), in the care and supervision of four (4) or more children; or
  • Three years (5460 hours) of satisfactory and verifiable full-time or equivalent part-time, paid or volunteer, experience and one of the following qualifications: 1. Complete six semester hours, or nine quarter hours; 2. 40 clock hours of training in course work applicable to school-age children and the department-approved courses in injury prevention, and playground safety for School-Aged Child Care Centers within the first nine months of employment.
    • Satisfactory experience includes experience in the care and supervision of four or more children from the ages of four (4)-eighteen (18) years old, unrelated to the individual, since attaining the age of eighteen (18).
    • The program director is responsible for planning and implementing the program and supervising the staff.
    A minimum of two years' experience in youth program development and supervising staff or any combination of education and/or experience that has provided the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary for excellent job performance. (Lead Coordinator requires three years' experience).Lead Coordinator needs a minimum of one year of experience in adult, teen and family program development and supervising staff or any combination of education and/or experience that has provided the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary for excellent job performance.Special Requirements:
  • Possess, or ability to obtain, valid First Aid and CPR certifications upon hire as well as all applicable licensing requirements and certifications.
  • Medication administration certification, or ability to acquire certification within 30 days of hire date.
  • Possess or ability to obtain a valid Colorado driver's license, an acceptable driving record, and be insurable by the District's carrier.
  • Be proficient in Microsoft Office Suite and can quickly learn new software, including specific recreation program software.
  • Work and Physical Requirements: OFFICE AND PROGRAM ENVIRONMENT: This position requires work in a variety of locations and conditions, including but not limited to, classrooms, gymnasiums, offices, and various venues around the Denver metro area, the District's parks and recreational facilities, and other similar inside and outside work areas. A substantial portion of this position will involve sedentary, administrative work in an office environment.Moderate physical activity is required, including the ability to lift items in excess of 50 pounds occasionally and up to 20 pounds frequently. This position requires the ability to stand, walk, sit, kneel, stoop, bend, lift, squat, push, pull, crawl, jump, slide, climb, pinch, grip, reach overhead, reach away from body, and perform repetitive motions.Work is performed in all weather conditions.
