Salary: See Position Description Location : Stafford County, VA Job Type: Part-Time Seasonal Job Number: 03773 Department: PRCF Division: Sports Opening Date: 01/31/2025 Starting Salary: 12.41 Job Description Performs intermediate unskilled work assisting with the implementation of recreational activities. Does related work as required. Duties are performed under the regular supervision of a Recreation Program Supervisor or a Recreation Leader IV. The starting pay of the Recreation Leader I is from $12.41/hour to $15.52/hour, based on experience The starting pay of the Recreation Leader II is from $14.21/hour to $17.77/hour based on experience The starting pay of the Recreation Leader III is from $15.21/hour to $19.02/hour based on experience The starting pay of the Recreation Leader IV is from $$17.42/hour to $21.78/hour based on experience Examples of DutiesAssisting with the implementation of recreational activities such as arts and crafts, sports and games, and camp activities.
  • Opens and closes recreation facilities;
  • Sets up program facilities, supplies, and equipment;
  • Assists with scheduling events;
  • Helps enforce standards of discipline and conduct by program participants;
  • Assists in the organizing and preparation of recreational activities;
  • Helps maintain stores and inventories recreational equipment, materials, and supplies;
  • Assists in the care and maintenance of equipment;
  • Helps lead groups of participants in recreational activities;
  • Provides information to the public regarding activities and programs;
  • Performs related tasks as required.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
  • Some knowledge of the methods and practices of community recreation;
  • Some knowledge of the equipment, techniques, and relevant rules of recreational programming;
  • Some knowledge of personal computers and computer applications is helpful;
  • Ability to assist in instructing common recreational activities;
  • Ability to establish effective working relationships with other workers, program participants, and the general public;
  • Ability to enforce rules and regulations and help maintain discipline;
  • Ability to withstand exposure to direct sunlight, heat and humidity.
Education and Experience Recreation Leader I: Any combination of education and experience equivalent to the completion of the tenth grade, supplemented by coursework in recreation, education, childcare or related field preferred; and some experience working with children of different ages and abilities, preferably in a recreational, state licensed or educational setting. Minimum age of 16 years old. Recreation Leader II: Any combination of education and experience equivalent to the completion of the eleventh grade, supplemented coursework in recreation, education, childcare or related field preferred; and some experience working with children of different ages and abilities, preferably in a recreational, state licensed or educational setting. Minimum age of 17 years old. Recreation Leader III: Any combination of education and experience equivalent to a high school diploma, supplemented by college coursework in recreation, education, childcare or related field preferred; experience working with children of different ages and abilities, preferably in a recreational, state licensed or educational setting. Minimum age of 18 years old. Recreation Leader IV: Any combination of education and experience equivalent to a high school diploma, supplemented by college coursework in recreation, education, childcare or related field preferred; experience working with children of different ages and abilities, preferably in a recreational, state licensed or educational setting. Minimum age of 21 years old.
