DescriptionESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: The following list was developed through a job analysis; however, it is not exhaustive and other duties may be required and assigned. The employee performs duties in support of Departmental programs to ensure programs operate efficiently and effectively. Performs set-up and clean- up for recreational programs and activities; serves as an on-site assistant. Observes and/or participates in activities and programs. Provides routine information on facility rules and division activities to participants and the general public. Monitors activity of participants in recreation programs and activities; enforces rules and regulations of recreational programs to maintain discipline and ensure safety. Helps ensure recreational programs and activities start and finish in the prescribed manner and time frames. Issues equipment for recreational programs and activities. Assists with officiating games and keeping score for sports leagues. Administers first aid according to prescribed procedures and notifies emergency medical personnel when necessary. Provides information to recreation participants; explains principles, techniques, and safety procedures to participants in recreational programs and activities; demonstrates use of materials and equipment. Assists with minor maintenance of recreational facilities and equipment including cleaning and stocking facilities. Helps assess supplies and equipment needed for recreational programs. Assists with youth, seniors, and active adult events and programs. Performs administrative work and other duties relating to programs. Maintains and secures facilities for programs.ESSENTIAL FUNCTION: Customer Service. The employee provides assistance to all visitors to include greeting visitors, addressing inquiries and processing payments to provide exceptional service. Greets visitors. Answers the telephone; responds accordingly or routes to appropriate individual. Responds to requests and addresses inquiries. Represents the City in a professional manner. Addresses complaints; refers complex issues and complaints to supervisor. Maintains a communication log to pass along all pertinent information to staff. Processes membership applications and renewals. Accepts and processes cash, check, credit/debit payments; provides receipts. Registers and signs up new members. Makes class, lessons, and equipment reservations for patrons.ESSENTIAL FUNCTION: Recreation Center Support. Provides administrative and facilities support to assist in the efficient and effective operations of the Center. Opens, closes, and secures the facilities. Turns lights on and off; sets alarm. Turns on computer system; updates, as necessary. Opens cash drawer; counts cash and secures; places excess money in vault. Updates Center administrative forms. Updates and modifies fitness schedule for the month. Develops and composes announcements and flyers for Center events. Updates bulletin board for display of all events and schedules. Runs the journal to provide documentation of all monies taken in. Runs reports for documentation of members' accounts status and balances. Wipes down counter and other surfaces to clean and disinfect. Reserves, hosts, and sets up for birthday parties. Cleans windows and sweeps floors to assist in maintaining a clean working environment, a pleasant environment, and a safe environment for members and guests. Responds to guest's emergencies requiring first aid or cardio-pulmonary resuscitation (CPR). Drives to run errands.NON-ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: Performs other job-related duties as required or assigned.Knowledge, Skills and Abilities (* Can be acquired on the job) *Knowledge of City rules, regulations, policies, and procedures. *Knowledge of the locations of City properties and important locations. *Knowledge of City recreation programs and activities. Knowledge of safety rules including accident causation and prevention. Knowledge of recreational activities and programs. Knowledge of First Aid and cardio-pulmonary resuscitation (CPR). Knowledge of the activities and characteristics consistent with the youth, adults, and the senior populations. Reading skills to understand and interpret schedules and rules. Communication skills to effectively communicate internally and externally, both orally and in writing. Verbal skills to effectively communicate with supervisor, co-workers, and the general public. Writing skills to clearly and neatly complete routine forms records, and notes using correct English, grammar, punctuation, and spelling. Math skills to perform basic calculations. Ability to render CPR and First Aid. Ability to facilitate recreational activities and programs. Ability to maintain records and reports. Ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions. Ability to communicate clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with those contacted in the course of work. Ability to deal with basic problems involving simple variables in standardized situations. Ability to consistently represent the City in a positive, professional manner. Ability to efficiently organize and manage daily operations. Ability to effectively collaborate work with others. Ability to deal with all contacts in a courteous and patient manner. Ability to be flexible and adapt to changes in schedule. Ability to work independently with minimal supervision. Ability to handle stressful situations and use good judgment. Ability to use computers and office productivity software. Ability to lift weight exceeding 25 lbs. Ability to drive.Minimum Qualifications: Possess high school diploma or GED. Minimum of one (1) year of previous work experience with the general public, and one (1) year of previous work experience in recreation programs; or any combination of education, training and experience that demonstrates the above listed knowledge, skills, and abilities commensurate with the requirements of this job. Possess CPR and first aid certifications. Ability to obtain and maintain other job- dependent certifications (i.e., lifeguard). Possess a current and valid driver's license; must be insurable. Ability to travel throughout the City. Ability to work non-standard work hours to include extended, evening, and weekends. Ability to pass a pre-employment background check and an initial drug screen.Physical Demands: The work requires some physical exertion such as long periods of standing; walking over rough, uneven, or rocky surfaces; recurring bending, crouching, stooping, stretching, reaching or similar activities; recurring lifting moderately heavy items such as record boxes. The work may require specific, but common, physical characteristics and abilities such as above-average agility and dexterity.Work Environment: The work involves moderate risks or discomforts which require special safety precautions, e.g., working around moving parts, carts, or machines; with contagious diseases or irritant chemicals, etc. Employees may be required to use protective clothing or gear such as masks, gowns, coats, boots, goggles, gloves, or shields.RequirementsIf you are offered a position with the City you will be given instructions for submitting additional pre-employment forms.
