Dayton-Yellow Springs Rd., Fairborn OH 45324 Job Type: Full-time Job Number: 00194 Department: Parks and Recreation Opening Date: 02/20/2025 Closing Date: 3/13/2025 11:59 PM Eastern Description Under the direction of the Parks & Recreation Superintendent, the Parks & Recreation Program Coordinator is responsible for coordinating, implementing, and promoting a variety of recreational opportunities and events. This role supports the City of Fairborn Parks and Recreation Department's mission of enhancing quality of life through recreational and cultural activities. Plan, coordinate, and oversee recreation events, adult sports leagues, youth summer mini-camps, youth sports camps and lessons, as well as adult and family art and DIY education classes. Provide budget input, conduct statistical research and economic analysis, and manage grants and contracts. Develop partnerships with businesses and community organizations. Arrange, schedule, and secure instructors, supervisors, and volunteers for programs. Address and resolve community concerns, requests, and complaints. Administer joint use agreements with school districts and affiliation agreements with other organizations. Estimate activity costs and revenues for budget preparation and maintain inventory for program supplies and equipment. Stay current with industry trends and new technologies to enhance programs and services. Examples of Duties Conduct ongoing economic and visitor impact research related to recreational programming and events. Continuously assess and address community needs and interests in Parks & Recreation from both recreational and cultural perspectives. Develop and maintain partnerships with local businesses, community groups, and city departments to expand funding opportunities and enhance recreational offerings. Assist in securing alternative funding sources to support recreational programs. Serve as the primary coordinator for all recreational offerings within the Parks & Recreation Department. Oversee and manage the operation of the community garden, ensuring accessibility, maintenance, and engagement opportunities for residents. Camps, Fitness & Wellness: Plan and implement fitness and wellness programs, summer camps, and general recreational activities. May also serve as a city liaison to various citizen groups, committees, nonprofits, special interest groups, and neighborhood organizations to advocate for parks & recreation initiatives and expand recreational opportunities for the Fairborn community. Youth & Adult Sports Programs: Manage the City's outdoor sports facilities and oversee the planning and implementation of youth and adult sports leagues. Will assist with the operations and oversight of various recreational and event minded groups and committees, including but not limited to, Miami Valley Recreation Activities Council (MVRAC), Ohio Parks and Recreation Association (OPRA), and National Parks & Recreation Association (NRPA). Prepare a variety of reports and other correspondence as requested by the Parks & Recreation Superintendent. Typical Qualifications Any combination of education and experience that has provided the knowledge, skills and abilities necessary to meet the job responsibilities of the Parks & Recreation Program Coordinator. Minimum of a bachelor's degree in a related field, or the equivalent of at least two years of directly related recreation experience combined with a related associate's degree. Must possess a valid First Aid and Adult/Child CPR with AED certification and maintain as a term and condition of continued employment. CPRP certification is not required but is preferred. Supplemental Information Business and recreational development principles, including funding opportunities, grant writing, and administration. Planning, marketing, and public relations techniques related to Parks & Recreation. Modern office practices, procedures, and computer applications. Strong organizational, oral, and written communication skills. Proficiency in using standard office equipment and learning new computer programs. Effective time management, including the ability to prioritize tasks and meet deadlines. Manage multiple tasks and responsibilities related to Parks & Recreation. Maintain positive and productive working relationships with co-workers, supervisors, vendors, and the public. Exercise sound judgment in decision-making and problem-solving. Health Insurance offered is a high deductible health plan (HDHP) and health savings account (HSA). Monthly premiums are paid by employees at 21%. Deductibles are $2000/$4000 (Single/Family). The City funds 75% of the deductible after successful probationary period expiration as approved by the annual budget. Dental Insurance offered through Delta Dental (employee pays 10% of monthly premium). Vision Insurance is offered through EyeMed (employee pays 10% of monthly premium). AFSCME employees follow their bargining unit agreement for dental, vision, hearing and life. Term Life Insurance is paid by the employer. Employees and Employer contribute to Ohio Public Employees Retirement System (OPERS) or Ohio Police & Fire Pension Fund dependent on position. Vacation/Sick Leave accrual is more than adequate.
