GENERAL STATEMENT OF JOB The position offers the right person a great opportunity to join a passionate, collaborative, and dedicated team of recreation professionals in a country club-like atmosphere. The newly built 84-slip superyacht marina, the award-winning Palm Beach Par 3, the Mandel Recreation Center, two tennis centers, and Seaview Park are under the general direction of the Recreation Department. All recreational assets are on the island of Palm Beach located between the beach and intracoastal waterways. We provide recreational, social, and wellness programs to the residents and visitors of the Palm Beach Island community. This role, guided by the Program Manager and Office Manager, supports the development and execution of diverse recreational activities across multiple settings. Candidates must be adept at juggling various tasks in a dynamic setting, frequently engaging with children, and be willing to work a flexible schedule that includes mornings, evenings, weekends, and holidays. Responsibilities include delivering exceptional customer service, organizing and leading the operations of the After School Program and Camp Palm Beach, organizing and leading the planning and implementation of all special events, assisting in front desk operations, handling the DaySmart point-of-sale system, aiding residents and guests with equipment check-out, managing phone inquiries, facilitating court reservations and program registrations, and providing up-to-date information on recreational activities. Duties in this position require considerable initiative and latitude for using independent judgment and decision-making to accomplish the recreational objectives suitable to the Town and its needs. This position also performs a wide variety of supervisory functions of part-time and contracted employees which requires some independent judgment and interpretation of routine procedures related to participant safety (such as signing kids in/out and participant supervision); Seaview Park supervision in general; procurement policy and procedures; hiring, orientating, training and evaluation of staff; program reporting; participant registration. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
- Lead and direct the operations of the After School Program, Camp Palm Beach, seasonal camps, and special events.
- Assist in overseeing and leading operations of all recreation programs, including youth and adult enrichment programs, and athletics
- Assist with planning, coordinating, and overseeing private rentals, ensuring residents have access to necessary facilities, equipment, and support for a successful rental.
- Manages staff by determining work procedures, preparing work schedules for part-time and contracted employees, projecting staffing needs, and overseeing staff development, including hiring, training, performance evaluations, and disciplinary actions in conjunction with the Recreation Department and People & Culture.
- Directs and supervises Town and contractual staff assisting in program implementation at the Recreation Center and Seaview Park, including setup and upkeep of indoor and outdoor facilities.
- Monitors revenue and expenses for assigned areas to ensure compliance with proposed budgets and purchasing guidelines.
- Performs administrative duties, including maintaining accurate inventories of equipment and supplies, record-keeping for programs and personnel, answering telephones, and providing program information and regulations.
- Oversight of front desk operations in the absence of the Administrative Specialist.
- Supervises facilities and enforces Town ordinances and departmental rules and regulations, resolving issues brought forth by the public, participants, or staff in a manner that serves the best interests of the Town.
- Responsible for emergency operation duties as assigned.
- Performs other related duties as required or assigned.
MINIMUM AND PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
- High School Degree or GED equivalent required. Associates Degree in Recreation, Leisure Management or related field, preferred.
- Two years working full-time in a customer service-oriented environment preferred.
- Experience within After School and Camp programs strongly preferred.
- Experience in supervising part-time staff preferred.
- Must be able to successfully pass a Level II background screening as required by the State of Florida.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES
- General knowledge of recreation program planning.
- General knowledge of tennis programs and pro shop operations.
- Knowledge of MS Office with proficiency in Word, Excel, Power Point, Publisher, and Outlook.
- Ability to use computerized activity registration, facility reservation, scheduling, and payment processing system for recreation activities.
- Knowledge of recreational and tennis specific trends.
- Ability to supervise, train and evaluate staff.
- Effectively use a point-of-sales (POS) system.
- Operate office equipment including computers and supporting word processing, spreadsheet, and database applications.
- Communicate clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing.
- Establish and maintain effective working relationships with those contacted in the course of work.
