Salary : $44,596.03 - $64,664.25 AnnuallyLocation : City of Midlothian, TXJob Type: Full TimeJob Number: 2425-00543Department: Senior Center (511)Opening Date: 12/19/2024Position SummaryStarting Hiring Range: $44,596.03-54,630.14Under general direction, this position is responsible for planning, coordinating, implementing, promoting, and overseeing activities and programs at their assigned location for the Parks & Recreation Department. Essential Job Functions
  • Coordinates, administers, and promotes assigned recreation or community services programs; establishes and implements program schedules; recruits and coordinates recreation contractors and/or volunteers; enforces recreational program rules and relevant policies and procedures.
  • Plans, develops, coordinates, and implements special events and fundraisers; manages event scheduling, staff and volunteer assignments, and coordinates logistics, entertainers, and others.
  • Assesses and participates in determining equipment, supply, and material needs; makes purchases, distributes, or supervises the distribution of equipment and supplies, and maintains inventory.
  • Promotes and publicizes assigned programs or events to sustain or improve participation, including maintaining data to evaluate programs and activities; attends community and other meetings, makes presentations regarding programs offered to the community, and responds to requests for assistance and information from the general public as assigned.
  • Provides program direction and assists staff, volunteers, and the public. Including assisting with membership applications and revenue collection.
  • Coordinates and schedules facility usage for reservations by outside parties, and enforces associated policies and procedures, including maintaining facilities, equipment, and ensuring safety.
  • Researches, develops, and implements alternative funding sources. Assists in obtaining corporate and other sponsorships as assigned, by researching and developing relationships.
  • Responsible for ensuring there is adequate transportation for activities, programs, and as assigned.
  • May provide assistance to boards and community groups as assigned.
  • Serves as an assistant to the facility manager and performs their duties in their absence.
  • Responsible for maintaining records for their assigned division or department per state, federal, and city requirements.
  • Creates and sends various correspondence, presentations, and reports.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
Education and Experience Bachelor's degree in recreation, physical education, or a related field from an accredited university, OR a high school diploma or GED equivalent, and four (4) years experience in programs, special events, or senior citizens programming. Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • Advanced knowledge of city and departmental practices, procedures, systems, and federal, state, and local laws, regulations, codes, ordinances, and best practices relating to the principles and practices of recreation and leisure activities.
  • Knowledge of and ability to assess the nutritional, social, recreational, and service needs of seniors.
  • Advanced knowledge of safety practices relating to recreational and leisure facilities, CPR, and first-aid practices and training.
  • Knowledge of principles, practices, and techniques of effective supervision and training.
  • Ability to effectively supervise staff in a proactive, appropriate, and productive manner, which requires functioning as a lead worker performing essentially the same work as those directed, and includes overseeing work quality, training, instructing, and scheduling work.
  • Ability to assess the effectiveness of operations, programs, and activities.
  • Ability to regularly interact with others and exchange and receive of information, providing effective and tactful customer service, and work independently with a high level of discretion.
  • A comprehensive, practical knowledge of a technical field with use of analytical judgment and decision-making abilities appropriate to the work environment of the organization.
  • Knowledge of and ability to correctly interpret, explain, and apply laws, rules, operations, practices, procedures, regulations, and policies.
  • Ability to allocate and utilize limited resources in a cost-effective manner.
  • Advanced ability to read a variety of materials and deal with system of real numbers, practical application of fractions, percentages, ratios/proportions, and measurement.

Special RequirementsMobility in an office and field environment is required.Ability to work flexible hours including attending various meetings and events outside of business hours.Licenses & CertificationsMust possess and maintain a valid driver's license with acceptable driving record as established by the City of Midlothian driving standards.First Aid and CPR certifications are required, or must be obtained within six (6) months of employment.ServSafe Food Handler is required, or must be obtained within six (6) months of employment.Work EnvironmentTypically works in a climate-controlled environment and requires physical effort in a variety of daily duties. Work performed requires the ability to tolerate regular adverse conditions such as working outside in extreme weather conditions. Work performed may cause fatigue of the eyes and other facilities because of the fairly continuous use of motor senses in the use of computers, screens, and telephones, which requires manual dexterity and visual acuity.
