Examples of Duties
- Assists in the planning, scheduling and implementation of a variety of recreation programs, activities, and special events for county citizens; travels to program/event locations to monitor activities; teaches classes and assures that assignments are completed.
- Develops and assists in the implementation of promotional campaigns, newsletters and other informational materials that identify leisure and educational opportunities; provides information, statistics, etc., to the media.
- Maintains records and prepares reports on facility attendance, and usage, program evaluations, surveys, rentals, volunteers, fund raising, program costs and day to day operations.
- Assists in the development and implementation of volunteer corps, and recruitment and orientation of part time and seasonal staff to aid in the day-to-day operations of recreation facilities; assists in the development, evaluation and implementation of policies and procedures concerning operations and usage.
- Schedules and secures facility rentals and reservations; contracts with attendants, as needed, and oversees proper set-up and breakdown for special events, programs and rentals; monitors and orders stock/supplies for special events, facilities and general recreation activities; assumes responsibility for facility, programs and special events in the absence of the supervisor.
- Oversees and assists with maintenance of recreation facilities to include: inspecting condition of facilities and grounds, performing general housekeeping and maintenance duties, assisting with ball field maintenance, submitting work orders for maintenance or repairing of major items, ensuring repairs are completed and facilities are in safe condition.
- Provides guidance and assistance to various organizations; interacts with participants using the facility, encouraging sportsmanship, socialization and participation; interacts with other departmental staff and other professionals and agencies to develop and implement activities and programs in other areas of the county.
- Operates a personal computer to enter, retrieve, review, or modify data, utilizing word processing, spreadsheet, database, Internet, e-mail, or other software; and operates general office or other equipment as necessary to complete essential functions.
- Communicates with supervisor, other County employees, law enforcement, attorneys, the public, and other individuals as needed to coordinate work activities, review status of work, exchange information, or resolve problems.
- Performs other related duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications Education and Experience: Requires Associate's degree in Recreation, Marketing, or related field, and two (2) years of experience in parks and recreation, or equivalent combination of education and experience. Bachelor's degree is preferred. Licenses or Certifications: Must possess and maintain a valid Georgia driver's license. Must possess and maintain the following certifications: CPR and First Aid. PHYSICAL DEMANDS The work is light work which requires exerting up to 20 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 10 pounds of force to move objects. WORK ENVIRONMENT Work is performed both indoors and outdoors in varying weather conditions, and may require standing for extended periods of time.
