JOB SUMMARY: The Recreation staff work hard to provide, recreational safety & leadership, outstanding customer service, spiritual direction & a welcoming environment to all guests of Forest Home Ojai Valley. JOB STATUS: Non-Exempt Job Details:

  • After training, responsible for safely operating 2 zip-lines, climbing walls, archery range, arrow tag, retail camp store and lite camp maintenance + cleaning.
  • No prior experience is needed. but always welcomed!
  • Under age 18 ok if work permit can be obtained.
  • This position requires extensive training. Forest Home will provide all necessary training to run recreation elements safely. further employment depends on successfully completing training
  • We offer reasonable flexibility for school schedules & second jobs
  • Saturday availability required full weekend availability preferred
  • Our Recreation elements operate year round.
  • Starting Pay is $17.00 per hour.
  • Opportunities exist to cross train for different departments and positions ( Lifeguard, Food Service, Guest Conference Hosting, Buildings & Grounds, ect)

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Assists in recreation programs as assigned.
  • Responsible for daily set up, inspection, cleanup, and operation of zip lines, climbing walls, archery & arrow tag ranges, camp store, or any other recreation activity.
  • Provide instruction to guests regarding safety and operation of recreation programs to ensure safety and smooth operation of courses.
  • Cleaning of platform tents and guest cabins after each guest groups departure.
  • Willing & able to obtain First Aid, CPR/AED certifications, and possibly Association of Challenge Course Technology Level 1 Facilitator
  • Understands & upholds Recreation safety Emergency Action Plan & procedures.
  • Assures equipment is inspected and maintained with good stewardship to ensure safety of guests and staff
  • Maintains inventories and supplies with good communication on needed changes
  • Maintains a willingness and positive attitude to help out in areas outside of this job description in various departments at Forest Home.
  • Supports and participates in spiritual life activities.
  • Attend and participate in all mandatory meetings and trainings
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE REQUIRED:
  • Working towards high school diploma or equivalent.
  • Prefer but not required work experience in a camp setting.
  • Preferred experience in job or ministry that requires guest interaction and service with people of all ages.
  • Must be able to obtain CPR/First Aid certification and preform minor first aid if needed
  • Interest & personal engagement in outdoor recreation activities preferred. (hiking, rock climbing, camping, swimming, surfing, challenge courses, ect )

  • The physical environment requires the employee to work both inside and outside in extreme heat/cold, wet/humid, and dry/arid conditions.
  • Requires walking, sitting, and standing for 6-8 hours a day.
  • Must be able to work at heights up to 60 feet off the ground.
  • Requires employees to ascend and/or descend ladders, stairs, cables, and poles with hands and feet.
  • Requires lifting and transporting 25-50 lbs. of gear and equipment up and down stairs
  • Ability to walk up to a mile daily
  • Requires visual acuity to read words and numbers and speaking and hearing ability sufficient to communicate in person.
