Description
Position Summary
Responsible for the administration and management of the Recreation Department including operations, training, and supervision, to ensure a wide variety of activities are available for all students to enhance mental and physical health, and provide time to practice communication skills, to demonstrate positive attitudes and behaviors, and to work and participate in groups.
Essential Functions
* Implement a recreation program in collaboration with center management to ensure students understand the relationship between physical health and employability and have the opportunity to improve their health and communication skills through recreation.
* Supervise the work and coordinate the activities of assigned staff and provide training as needed.
* Develop and maintain a calendar of recreational activities and events with input from the student body and publish on a regular basis.
* Recruit and train qualified recreation staff members and provide coaching and discipline in compliance with corporate policies.
* Conduct periodic surveys of student recreational interests and participation, and use the information gathered in planning recreational activities.
* Oversee the center water safety training program, ensuring that all students receive a documented, swimming proficiency test prior to engaging in water activities; all new students receive a swimming proficiency test upon enrollment if a pool is located on center; all students are shown the water safety video upon enrollment; and ensure that all water-related activities are supervised by a certified lifeguard.
* Network with the community to participate in events such as service learning, intramurals, and other sporting events that promote a positive program image.
* Provide, organize, conduct, and supervise a variety of fitness and leisure activities open to all students.
* Provide educational activities and materials to all students that support regular physical activity, nutrition, and achieving a healthy weight.
* Lead and participate in center events and committees that promote healthy lifestyles, mindfulness, and teambuilding skills.
* Collaborate with various departments to promote fellowship and improve the staff and student rapport.
* Provide individualized weight management programming and/or counseling.
* Provide ongoing monitoring of the overall recreation program and implement enhancements in collaboration with center management.
* Ensure that all students participating in organized contact or rigorous sports (e.g., football, basketball, boxing, and running) are medically cleared by a health professional prior to participating. Assign qualified staff members to be present at all rigorous physical activities and/or contact sports. Use discretion and judgement to resolve student issues to promote student retention.
* Assign recreational staff to transport students to recreation events as needed.
* May utilize GSA vehicles to transport students to off-site activities.
* Provides on-call center support as warranted.
* Ensure adequate transportation is available on-site in case of emergencies during all center- sponsored organized sports.
* Maintains accountability of staff, students, and property and adhere to safety practices.
* Participate in department meetings and all mandated PRH and Strategix training.
* Promote a harassment-free environment.
* Utilize information systems and handle student data in strict adherence to Job Corps and Strategix policies to protect student's personally identifiable information (PII) and reduce network security threats.

Requirements
Qualifications and Experience Minimum
Bachelor of arts degree with an emphasis in Recreation and/or sports management and three years of related experience working with youth, or equivalent combination of education and experience. Current CPR/First Aid/AED certification. Excellent verbal, and written communication skills. High level of conflict- resolution skills. Effective relationship-building skills with students and staff. Information technology proficiency including MS Office. Unless waived by management, a valid driver's license in the state of employment with an acceptable driving record is required. Willingness to provide on-call center support as warranted.
Preferred
Bachelor's in related field and four years of experience in a recreational and/or sports program with a community-based organization, school, educational or vocational program; certified lifeguard, and CDL in the state of employment.
