Incorporated in 1946, Galt is a growing community with approximately 26,000 residents located approximately 20 miles south of Sacramento along Highway 99. The City is led by five elected council members, the Mayor being appointed.

The City of Galt is located in the heart of the Delta Recreation Area in Northern, California. Thirty minutes away are the Sierra Foothills and the Sacramento Delta. Reno, Lake Tahoe, San Francisco and the CA coast are all within a two hour drive making Galt a recreational haven for boat lovers and outdoorsmen alike.
ABOUT THE POSITION
Under direct supervision, employees in this at-will classification perform a variety of unskilled and semi-skilled tasks in the areas of recreation or the market divisions of the City. This position may be a part time or temporary position depending on the assignment. This classification is not alternately staffed and employees cannot promote to the level II of this position unless working in specified level II assignments.
Recreation: Conducts or assists in the organization of community recreation programs, sports and aquatic activities and special events.
Depending on assignment, typical duties include, but are not limited to: assist in the operations of a community program and/or gymnasium facility; provide support services to department staff; interact and communicate with the public; promote a safe environment for both staff and patrons; perform a variety of office and computer tasks and other related duties as assigned. Program areas include, but are not limited to sports, crafts, special events, aquatics, life guarding, swim instruction, day camps, pre-school, after school and senior program, concession cashiering and cleaning of facilities. The level II of this classification is distinguished by increased level of responsibility by being assigned to the ASES Program, to lifeguard position, or responsible for the direction of a small work crew.
Market: Assists with the general operations and clean-up of the Galt Market and special events.
Typical duties include, but are not limited to: clean and maintain the Galt Market grounds, building, restrooms and other assigned facilities; enforce Market rules and regulations; assist with carry-outs for customers; assist in assigning and monitoring all vendors and assist in location and activity assignments; assist in record-keeping; and other related duties as assigned. The level II of this classification is distinguished by increased level of responsibility by being assigned to direct work of small work crew, security, or check-in process.

Education and Experience:
Market: Must be at least sixteen (16) years old at time of hire. Knowledge and experience in market operations, or a closely related facility is desirable. Depending on assignment.
Pre-Employment and Continued Employment :
City of Galt is authorized and required by the state of California to access Local, State, and/or Federal criminal history as part of the testing process. This process can be completed by initial fingerprinting and/or a full background investigation pursuant to Penal Code 11105(b) (10), 11105.3, 13300(b) (10); Education Code 10911.5; Public Resources Code 5164) and in compliance with the City of Galt's Fingerprinting Policy and Procedure.
As a future employee or volunteer, you are required to be fingerprinted and processed through the Department of Justice and cleared before you can start. All information obtained will be kept in strict confidentiality.
Must have a current and valid TB Test pursuant to Public Resources Code 5163.
Must pass a pre-employment physical.
Working Conditions: May be required to work a varied schedule of hours, which may include early mornings, evenings, weekends, and holidays at a variety of City facilities. Work may be occasionally performed indoors. Basic cleaning of facilities may include exposure to cleaning agents.
Physical Demands: Depending on assignment, must possess strength, stamina and mobility to work indoors in an office setting/recreational facility or to perform required work out doors including: frequent bending, stooping, kneeling, reaching, climbing, and walking on uneven surfaces; lifting up to 40 pounds with occasional lifting up to 50 pounds; use of standard office equipment and/or recreation equipment including a computer and handheld devices; constant use of overall vision; and hearing and speech to communicate in person and over the telephone and/or radio. Must be willing to work out doors in all weather conditions with possible exposure to loud noise, traffic, and potentially hazardous conditions such as exposure to chemicals, fumes and other environmental substances.
Environmental Elements:
Employees may work in the field and are occasionally exposed to loud noise levels, cold and/or hot temperatures, vibration, confining workspace, chemicals, mechanical and/or electrical hazards. Incumbents may be exposed to blood and body fluids rendering First Aid and CPR are required to wear appropriate attire for the recreation activity to which they are assigned. Employees may interact with upset staff and/or public and private representatives in interpreting and enforcing departmental policies and procedures.
