We are actively seeking a dedicated and organized Referral Coordinator to play a vital role in our Family Medicine Clinic, ensuring seamless coordination of patient care through effective referral management.KVH Family Medicine Clinic is a cornerstone of health and wellness in our rural community. Located in Goldendale Washington, our clinic is committed to delivering personalized, comprehensive family medicine services to our neighbors, creating a warm and caring healthcare environment.Klickitat Valley Health is a rural, critical-access hospital located in scenic Goldendale, Washington only two hours from Portland along the breathtaking Columbia River Gorge. KVH offers emergency and acute inpatient care and a full scope of ancillary services including General Surgery, Diagnostic Imaging, Laboratory, Respiratory Therapy, PT / OT, Behavioral Health, Dental, Pain Management, Optometry, and Hospice. The hospital also owns a busy, well-established primary clinic that is located on the hospital campus. Inpatient care is managed by 24/7 Hospitalist staff. KVH employs over 300 staff.General Summary:The Referral Coordinator processes all patient referrals for services outside of the clinic, as well as obtaining prior authorization from insurance companies for such services. The Referral Coordinator interacts with the public in a professional, business-like, respectful manner by treating each person as an individual with unique needs and attempting to find financial solutions that mutually meet the needs of the organization and the patient. The Referral Coordinator demonstrates excellence in customer service during interactions with employees, managers/supervisors, patients, patient family members, customers, vendors, etc., and works collaboratively with colleagues and departments throughout the organization to provide optimal care services in a professional, ethical, and knowledgeable fashion. Maintains a safe, clean, and organized work environment. QualificationsMinimum Education, Training & Experience (includes licenses or certifications):Education:
- High school diploma or GED required.
Experience:
- At least one (1) year of work experience in an outpatient clinic setting.
- Office support experience including fax machines, scanners, copiers, and multi-line phone systems, district EMR's and highly skilled in computer programs and spreadsheets.
- Experience working directly with insurance companies is strongly preferred.
Skills/Knowledge/Abilities:
- Intermediate computer skills.

- Verifying insurance for both in and out of network benefits.
- Understanding of insurance claim processing and preauthorization requirements, CPT and ICD codes.

GENERAL ACCOUNTABILITIES AND ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
- Process all patient referrals in a timely manner.
- Contact insurance companies to obtain prior authorization.
- Notify provider and/or patient of insurance denial.
- Maintain referral log and updates and maintains the tasks and referrals in the EMR.
- Communicate status of pending referrals through log and EMR or by other means.
- Communicates with specialist offices, and with all insurance companies to ensure prompt scheduling of service.
- Identify barriers in the referral process and brainstorm ways to resolve issues.
- Assist with inter-departmental processes.
- Provide support staff backup.
- All other duties as assigned.
