Job Description :

Technical:

  • Evaluate entire commercial (supermarket) refrigeration systems (primarily parallel compression “racks”) for condition, capacity, and efficiency, given proposed remodel-related changes to the system.
  • Survey existing systems and collect all pertinent system architecture information, model numbers, conditions, etc.
  • Perform refrigeration load calculations.
  • Arrange loads on appropriate compressor suction groups.
  • Calculate compressor & condenser capacity & select new equipment when needed.
  • Size all related piping, pressure regulating valves, etc.
  • Previous design experience with multiple system types, i.e. condensing units, distributed systems, cascade systems, and secondary pumped systems.
  • Knowledge and experience with supermarket energy management systems (EMS)
  • Ability to read and understand complex mechanical, electrical, and architectural plans.
  • Be willing and able to learn about newer system types, such as CO2 Transcritical systems.
  • Generate refrigeration and EMS designs in compliance with client standards and all applicable local and state codes.

Leadership:

  • Assign tasks to team members, including support engineering staff and drafting technicians, to execute projects efficiently and successfully.
  • Provide training to other mechanical/refrigeration designers when/where needed.
  • Review, approve, and take ownership of design work provided by team members when necessary.

Qualifications:

A Bachelor of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering, a minimum of 2 -5 years of experience in refrigeration design is required, and an EIT pursuing PE licensure.

Or

An associate degree with a minimum of 5-8 years experience in refrigeration design who can show the applicability of the experience to the job description included.

Responsibilities:

• Excellent knowledge of discipline-specific codes and other building codes.

• Possess excellent verbal and written communication skills.

• Good leadership skills to educate clients and team members.

• Meet with the Project team to discuss the schedule, budget, phasing, site, and design review issues.

• Review preliminary and final designs for function, clearances, and coordination with other disciplines.

• Client contact.

• Perform quality assurance on projects in coordination with the technical manager or project engineer.

• Set high standards of professional integrity and seek the company's and client's interests.

• Ability to meet fast-paced deadlines.

• Additional duties as required.

Skills:

• Excellent written and oral communication.

• Proficient in Microsoft Office tools.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

Must be able to sit and/or stand for long periods, handle stressful situations and multi-tasking, and work under time constraints. Long hours may be required. WORK ENVIRONMENT:

Must handle stressful situations, multi-task, and work within reasonable time constraints to meet production schedules and budgets. Will work in the typical office environment and may also be required to work outside of a typical office from time to time.
