The Refrigeration Manager is responsible for overseeing the operation, maintenance, and repair of refrigeration systems and related equipment in a poultry processing plant. This role ensures that the refrigeration systems function efficiently and safely to maintain optimal temperatures for food safety and quality.Key Responsibilities:
- Maintenance and Repair:
- Perform routine inspections, preventive maintenance, and repairs on refrigeration systems, including compressors, condensers, evaporators, and other related equipment.
- Diagnose malfunctions in refrigeration systems and repair or replace defective parts, such as motors, switches, and electrical wiring.
- Maintain ammonia based refrigeration systems, ensuring they operate within safe and legal parameters.
- System Monitoring:
- Monitor and log the performance of refrigeration systems to ensure proper operation.
- Adjust controls to regulate temperature and humidity levels according to the specifications required for poultry processing and storage.
- Troubleshooting:
- Respond to emergency breakdowns or alarms, providing timely troubleshooting to minimize downtime.
- Collaborate with production and maintenance teams to resolve issues quickly and efficiently.
- Documentation:
- Maintain accurate records of all maintenance and repair work, including parts used and time spent.
- Document and report any safety hazards or equipment malfunctions to management.
- Education: High school diploma or GED. Technical certification in HVAC/R or related field preferred.
- Experience: 2+ years of experience supervising techs in industrial refrigeration, preferably in a food processing environment.
- Skills:
- Proficiency in reading and interpreting technical manuals, schematics, and diagrams.
- Strong understanding of refrigeration cycles and components.
- Ability to use hand tools, power tools, and diagnostic equipment.
- Excellent problem-solving and troubleshooting skills.
- Basic computer skills for record-keeping and documentation.
- Licenses/Certifications:
- Ammonia refrigeration certification (preferred).
Working Conditions:
- Must be able to work in cold environments, often below freezing temperatures.
- Ability to work on-call and respond to emergencies as needed, including nights, weekends, and holidays.
- Physically capable of lifting up to 40 pounds, standing for extended periods, and performing tasks that require climbing, bending, and reaching.
