Northern Light Health Department: FoundationPosition is located: Northern Light Home Care and Hospice BangorWork Type: Full TimeHours Per Week: 40.00Work Schedule: No hours assignedSummary:The Regional Major Gifts Officer plays a critical role in expanding and growing philanthropic support for Northern Light Health and its member organizations by focusing on prospect and donor relationships at Northern Light AR Gould, Inland and Sebasticook Valley Hospitals, and other assigned geographic areas as needed. This position has a primary focus on major gift work and capital campaigns, and other funding priorities as identified by NLH and hospital leadership. Responsibilities:
  • Identify, cultivate, solicit, and provide stewardship for major (5- to 7 figure) gifts of $10,000 or more.
  • Develop and implement strategic fundraising plans for major and planned gifts.
  • Builds effective relationships with hospital leadership, physicians, clinicians and other healthcare staff, grateful patients and families, volunteers, community, and civic leaders to advance the mission through philanthropy.
  • Work in partnership with the Foundation leadership and staff to shape and implement strategies for the cultivation and solicitation of major campaign prospects to support hospital funding priorities.
  • Achieve realistic and quantifiable goals based on mutually agreed upon fundraising metrics that will be the primary performance standards used to measure fundraising success.
  • Manage a portfolio of 125-150 donors and prospective donors to strategically advance through moves management and solicitation.
  • Keep timely and accurate records of donor and prospect interactions through the Raiser's Edge and NXT database.
  • Work closely with philanthropy staff to support signature fundraising events with a focus on cultivating major gift donors and prospects who participate.
  • Provide updates to foundation and hospital leadership and boards on fundraising initiatives and opportunities.
  • Assist in planning and efforts to transition donors from annual giving to major and planned giving cultivation.
  • Identify and engage new major gift prospects for capital campaigns and other funding priorities as identified by hospital leadership.
  • Collaborate with director of prospect research to identify and grow the pipeline of major gift prospects and donors.
  • Maintain high visibility with the hospital community; remain accessible to community members as a means of building positive donor relationships and to heighten awareness of Northern Light Health and its member organizations.
  • Work closely with Foundation colleagues and Marketing & Communications to develop case for support, proposal communications, and other collateral materials needed for major gift and capital campaign fundraising.
  • Promote a culture of philanthropy with Northern Light Health internal audiences; build philanthropic awareness through physicians, nursing, clinical and support staff, and maintain a presence throughout the hospital environment.
  • Collaborate with Foundation leadership and staff to support overall goals and objectives for the Northern Light Health Foundation and is members.
  • Support foundation team members and actively participate in foundation team efforts.
Other Information:
  • Possess a current driver's license and must have reliable vehicle for travel throughout the State of Maine.
  • Flexibility working occasional weekends, evenings, or holidays.
  • Bachelor's degree required, preferred advanced degree in communications, organization management, health, or business.
  • A minimum of five years of dedicated fundraising experience in a variety of roles that represent progressively increased responsibility in major gift fundraising.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage a portfolio of donors and donor prospects, moving them through the cycle of giving to solicitation onto stewardship and sustained and increased giving.
  • Documented outcomes resulting from personal, one-on-one solicitations for contributions.
  • Ability to work independently within defined goals and standards.
  • A strong work ethic and demonstrates good judgement, professionalism and the highest standards of ethical conduct.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Results oriented with the ability to work in a timely manner with multiple deadlines and competing requirements.

  • Ability to work in a dynamic, fast-paced environment and good at developing relationships both internally and externally with the various constituencies.
  • Proficient with computerized information management in the fundraising setting, including Blackbaud Raiser's Edge and NXT, and Microsoft Office.

  • Able to work effectively with people and inspire others to perform at a high level of efficiency and productivity.
  • Knowledge of general planned giving concepts and ability to discuss with donors.
