Required Qualifications (as evidenced by an attached resume):

A diploma from an accredited school of nursing or a college degree in nursing. Licensed as a Registered Nurse in the state of New York. Two (2) years of full-time experience in an inpatient or outpatient medical setting.

Preferred Qualifications:

Four (4) years of full-time experience in an inpatient or outpatient setting. Experience in a Family or Internal Medicine practice. Experience with taking vital signs. Experience conducting spirometry tests. Phlebotomy certified. Experience using EMR system(s). Familiarity with the WTC Healthcare Program.

Brief Description of Duties:

OUR MISSION

The Stony Brook WTC Health Program offers comprehensive, integrative healthcare of 9/11-related illnesses for WTC disaster responders. Integral to our mission of patient-centered care is an enduring support community, advocacy for our 9/11 responders, and cutting-edge research efforts.

The Registered Nurse will be providing direct patient care. They will make observations of patient condition and assess nursing needs. The incumbent must ensure the patient's follow up treatment needs have been fully addressed and will be responsible for documenting patient research and medical information. The successful candidate must be able to work independently and as a member of a team, be detail oriented and have excellent organizational and communication skills.

Duties:

  • Provide direct patient care to include: phlebotomy, spirometry and recording vital signs (blood pressure, pulse rate, height and weight).
  • Take notes on visits.
  • Gather information from patients and input patient responses to the medical monitoring and research questionnaires.
  • Perform patient injections as prescribed by the physician.
  • Screen lab values as assigned and notify attending physician of abnormal values.
  • Assist Providers and review consult notes and medical records required for member certifications.
  • Assist with case care management, patient referrals and medical inventory.
  • Prepare patient charts and files as needed; maintaining patient chart flow sheets.
  • Ensure the specimens are collected and delivered in a timely manner.
  • Enter medical information into EMR system, including, but not limited to; vital signs, medications and past medical and family history.
  • Review lab results as they come in and communicate them to members and providers. Communicate results to other physicians as required. Assess and communicate high/low values and alert Providers to needs of patients.
  • Participate in QI/QA projects.
  • Maintain a unit for delivery of high-quality care.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Special Notes:

The Research Foundation of SUNY is a private educational corporation. Employment is subject to the Research Foundation policies and procedures, sponsor guidelines and the availability of funding. FLSA Non-Exempt position, eligible for the overtime provisions of the FLSA.

Evening and weekend work may be required at times.

**The incumbent must be willing to work and travel between the Nassau and Commack clinic locations. Occasional Evenings and Saturdays will be required.

The starting salary range (or hiring range) to be offered for this position is noted below, it represents SBU's good faith and reasonable estimate of the range of possible compensation at the time of posting.

Salary: $80,000-$104,000
