She/he implements the Nursing Service standards of care and practice, as appropriate to the patients served and the areas of clinical practice, and in compliance with PHL Article 27F, Part 63.As a nursing professional, the RN shall maintain practice pursuant to the current laws, rules and regulations of the State Education Department that govern nursing practice in New York State (Article 139; 6900 - 6910 NURSING).ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES1. Utilizes the nursing process and exhibits critical thinking in the systematic assessment and formulation of individualized plans of care to meet patient's needs.2. Documents data collection and assessments, plans of care, interventions and patient responses per policy.3. Maintains effective communication with staff, physicians, patients and families, also within the unit and with other departments.4. Demonstrates competence in performing nursing care practices and clinical skills identified as necessary to the area of practice and needs of the patient populations served.5. Demonstrates knowledge, respect and sensitivity of patient's rights. Serves as a patient advocate per policy.6. Coordinates and directs patient care activities, delegates tasks appropriately and accepts the accountability of her/his professional role.7. Performs triage for patients who walk in to the clinic and by phone. 8. Demonstrates valid provisional judgment and logical problem solving in the resolution of patient care or unit problems, appropriately informs Head Nurse and Director.9. Utilizes opportunities for clinical learning; keeps abreast of professional literature pertaining to HIV/AIDS, Hep C, PrEP, primary care, substance use; and, uses this information in the delivery of care and to meet established requirements for own professional development. Remains current on regulations impacting HIV/AIDS testing and maintains ability to offer rapid HIV testing. 10. Performs unrelated duties in times of emergencies, and assumes other responsibilities when assigned.11. Responsible to actively participate in the Department's Quality Improvement and Quality Assurance efforts as directed by their supervisor, including but not limited to participation on the Department's Quality Improvement Committee.QualificationsRequired: BS, BSN, RN (Bachelor's degree is required)Preferred: MSN* RN (NY State) -currently licensed• One year medical/surgical nursing experience within the last four years.• Excellent nursing skills required - including assessment, triage skills & phlebotomy • Possesses well-developed and effective interpersonal skills and is able to communicate effectively verbally and in writing. • Excellent team building and leadership skills essential. • Demonstrates confidence in actions and exercises good judgment.• Displays ability to assume accountability for own actions.• Possesses the ability to plan, organize, develop and implement goals, objectives, policies and procedures necessary for quality care.• Embraces and adapts to change.• Demonstrates ability to recognize problems, approach them in an objective manner, reach appropriate solutions, implement them and evaluate for effectiveness.• Computer experience required. Must have experience with spreadsheet implementation (MS Excel) or must be willing to learn to use required databases. • Experience with individuals living with HIV/AIDS• Ability to multi-task and handle multiple competing priorities in a calm and systematic manner. • Personal Car for Use for Work-Related TransportationPreferred:• Bilingual: Spanish/English is preferred.• Experience working with the medical care of HIV & Hepatitis C -positive patients in either a medical outpatient or an inpatient (med/surg) setting.
