Full-Time - 0.6 FTE/ 48 Hours BiweeklyNight Shift - 1845-0715Every 3rd Weekend; 1 Major, 1 Minor and 1 Split HolidayEligible for Shift DifferentialGeneral SummaryUtilizes the nursing process to assess, plan, implement, and evaluate comprehensive care to persons with cancer and hematologic diagnoses and their families. Primary responsibilities include direct patient care, patient/family teaching, symptom management, counseling, and supportive role to assist the patients and their families in coping with and adjusting to the diagnosis and treatment of cancer and hematologic diagnoses.Duties and ResponsibilitiesProvides direct nursing care in accordance with established policies, procedures, and protocolsAssesses treatment plans and evaluates patient care needsCarries out physician orders; orders lab tests, x-rays, etc., as per provider's request. Notifies provider of any abnormal resultsPrepares and administers prescribed IV medications and chemotherapyEvaluates oncology patients and plans, implements, and documents nursing careAssists physician(s) during examinations and proceduresProvides supportive care and administration of chemotherapy, blood components, fluid & electrolyte replacements, and other oncology treatments as prescribedAbility to access and administer medication and/or chemotherapy for patients with implanted pumps and/or cathsOrders lab tests, x-rays, etc. as required per provider's orders; notify provider of abnormal resultsInstructs and educates patients and families regarding medications, diet, procedures, etcAssesses and coordinates patient's treatment plan needs with members of the healthcare team (i.e. Social Workers)Changes dressings, cleans wounds, and monitors vital signsVariation of duties may result based on the assigned customer care unit(s). This may include differences in the specific clinical skills required of the RN. Unit based skill lists outline expectations beyond the house wide RN requirements. SYS-NURS-L Nursing Education Requirements Policy outlines current certification(s) required for specific areas of nursing practice and is considered to be part of the job description.In addition to requirements specified in the license and certification section below, current BLS certification for all areas of nursing practice is required.Current certification may be required for the following areas of nursing practice:Emergency Care Center – ACLS, PALSIntensive Care Center & MSCC Lead – ACLS, PALSL&D – ACLS, NRP, - Experienced L&D nurses will obtain within 6 months and new L&D nurses will obtain at 1 year of experienceNICU – NRPPEDS – PALSPCC/PACU/ENDO – ACLS, PALSProcedural – ACLSCommon Expectations:Possess knowledge on the effects of chemotherapyAbility to access ports, start peripheral IVs, and perform central line dressing changes.Familiarity with standard concepts, practices, and procedures within an oncology patient care settingThinks critically; utilizes sound judgment; promptly reports potential patient safety risks to provider and/or managerDemonstrates good organizational skills in the preparation of daily work schedules and the assignment of duties and responsibilitiesAbility to effectively work with and through physicians, subordinates, customers, and other personnel in a cooperative, collaborative manner in order to improve patient care outcomesAbility to efficiently and effectively manage multiple tasksAbility to work in a fast paced, patient care environmentDemonstrates ability to promote quality improvement through development and maintenance of standardsAbility to maintain professional conduct in all work-related and/or emergent situationsExperience working with computer systemsWellSpan Health's vision is to reimagine healthcare through the delivery of comprehensive, equitable health and wellness solutions throughout our continuum of care. Required2 years Hematology/oncology experience.
