Title: Registered Nurse Post Anesthesia Care Unit Location: Bronx,NY Job Description: Position Overview : As a Registered Nurse (RN) in the Post Anesthesia Care Unit (PACU), you will be responsible for providing specialized nursing care to patients recovering from anesthesia after surgical or diagnostic procedures. Your primary role is to closely monitor patients' vital signs, manage pain and discomfort, assess for complications, and ensure a safe and smooth transition from the operating room to the recovery phase. This role requires strong critical thinking skills, the ability to work in a fast-paced environment, and a commitment to patient safety and comfort. Key Responsibilities: Receive patients from the operating room, ensuring a smooth transition and continuity of care. Assess and monitor patients' vital signs, oxygen saturation, level of consciousness, and pain levels, using advanced monitoring equipment. Implement and manage pain management strategies, including administering analgesics and evaluating their effectiveness. Monitor patients for potential post-anesthetic complications, such as respiratory distress, hypotension, hypertension, hypothermia, or allergic reactions. Assess and manage the patient's airway, ensuring proper breathing and ventilation. Perform frequent assessments of surgical sites, dressings, and drainage, identifying signs of infection or other complications. Collaborate with the anesthesia team, surgeons, and other healthcare professionals to ensure effective postoperative care and pain management. Communicate and provide education to patients and their families regarding their recovery process, potential side effects, and self-care instructions. Administer prescribed medications and intravenous fluids, monitoring their effects and ensuring proper dosage and administration. Prepare patients for discharge from the PACU, ensuring they meet discharge criteria and providing necessary postoperative instructions and follow-up appointments. Document all assessments, interventions, and patient responses accurately and in a timely manner, adhering to regulatory and facility requirements. Adhere to infection control protocols, safety guidelines, and regulatory standards to maintain a safe and sterile environment for patients, staff, and visitors. Qualifications: Valid and unrestricted Registered Nurse (RN) license in the state of practice. Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) degree preferred. Minimum of [X] years of nursing experience in a PACU or critical care setting. Strong knowledge of perioperative nursing principles, post-anesthetic recovery, and pain management.
