St. Vincent's Behavioral Health Center is a 76-bed inpatient psychiatric facility dedicated to providing exceptional care for children, adolescents, and adults suffering from mental health and dual diagnosis substance use disorders. As part of Hartford HealthCare, we are setting the standard for mental health services throughout Connecticut.
Job Summary:
- Deliver direct patient care to individuals with behavioral health disorders, ensuring adherence to the facility's policies and procedures.
Responsibilities:
- Conduct initial and ongoing bio-psychosocial assessments following nursing best practices, and develop a nursing care plan aligned with the master treatment plan.
- Engage in treatment team conferences to help plan and adjust goals, objectives, and interventions tailored to each patient's unique needs.
- Implement the nursing care plan for assigned patients and conduct group therapy sessions to enhance patient well-being.
- Assess patient responses to interventions, adapting the nursing care plan as necessary and collaborating with the treatment team for optimal outcomes.
- Perform comprehensive patient assessments to identify their physical, psychosocial, cultural, spiritual, and age-related needs, ensuring personalized care.
- Collaborate with patients and their families to develop and document an inclusive nursing care plan that addresses all facets of care.
- Administer direct patient care according to physician orders and protocols, documented thoroughly in the medical record.
- Recognize changes in patient status and amend the care plan promptly as required.
- Delegate care responsibilities to qualified nursing personnel based on their education and expertise to effectively meet patient needs.
- Exhibit the knowledge and skills necessary to care for behavioral health patients and collaborate with the interdisciplinary team to achieve patient goals.
- Perform additional duties as assigned.
- Adhere to the ANA Scope and Standards of Nursing Practice, Code of Ethics, and Social Policy Statement.
Qualifications
- Licensed Registered Nurse from the Connecticut Department of Public Health, obtained prior to hire or transfer.
- Current BLS certification from the AHA or American Red Cross, obtained within 60 days of hire or transfer.
- Associates Degree in Nursing required; Bachelor's Degree preferred.
- Experience in an acute care psychiatric setting is advantageous.
- Demonstrated leadership abilities, capable of managing high-stress situations according to MOAB training guidelines, both independently and as part of a team.
