Responsibilities Provides educational opportunities to staff, patients, families and the community; plans, organizes, and implements educational activities, including orientation, to meet the needs of all levels of healthcare personnel, including students; utilizes principles of adult learning in the education process; maintains knowledge base of the latest technological advances including hardware and software applications which may be used in the creation and presentation of educational programs; provides audio-visual equipment and instruction for use for hospital-wide activities; utilizes a PC for program development; evaluates effectiveness of educational activities; participates in the development, interpretation, and education of hospital policy and procedures; coordinates emergency/high risk clinical responder drills/simulations in accordance with organizational objectives; participates with other members of the healthcare team in planning, implementing, and evaluating educational programs for patients and families, as requested; contributes to the website/social media coordination of education/calendar postings; assesses and meets staff educational needs on an ongoing basis; initiates and/or participates in performance improvement studies, evidence-based learning and research activities and education; oversees and manages orientation of new employees and students providing consistency of the program; coordinates and/or teaches educational programs (AWHONN, community classes, continuing education, HealthStream clinical content); serves as Program Director for ABN to include maintaining records, approving classes and transmitting files to ABN; serves as AHA Coordinator for BLS/Heartsaver to include maintaining current instructor data, coordinating staff BCLS/Heartsaver check offs and updating student certificates in HealthStream; schedules clinical nursing student and practicum student rotations and orientations as needed; edits and updates the following organizational information: annual in-services, Nursing Orientation, Sailing through Survey, Student Orientation, and website information; maintains accurate and complete educational records; adheres to the standards of the governing continuing education bodies, including but not limited to Alabama Board of Nursing, Social Work, CME; fosters compliance with accreditation and regulatory standards; adheres to current Infection Control and Safety Standards; maintains equipment and supplies; maintains professional knowledge and skills through journal reading and educational programs related to patient care and age specific needs of staff, management of people and resources; provides direct patient care to maintain clinical skills as workload permits; assists in the introduction and evaluation of new equipment and procedures; obtains and maintains BLS/PALS/NRP/ACLS Instructor certifications; communicates and uses appropriate customer relation skills with physicians, patients, families and healthcare team in person and via telephone; responds to overhead pages; accesses and accurately maintains electronic and paper medical records; participates on committees as assigned; participates in Performance Improvement activities as assigned; regular and prompt attendance; ability to work the assigned schedule, including overtime and call as required; related duties as required. Qualifications Bachelor's degree in nursing from an accredited institution as approved and accepted by the University of South Alabama, two years of professional nursing experience, and licensure with the state of Alabama as a registered nurse. Master's degree in nursing is preferred.
