Responsibilities
  • Responsible for planning, implementing, goal setting and evaluating diabetes self-management training for patients and their families.
  • Provide patients with the knowledge and skills to effectively manage their diabetes.
  • Possess a body of knowledge that spans across disciplines to provide comprehensive Diabetes Self-Management Training (DSMT).
  • Provide diabetes self-management training (DSMT) to patients individually and in group classes.
  • DSMT topics include, and are not limited to, explaining diabetes pathophysiology, initiation of insulin, oral agents and/or other diabetes medications, training on glucometers, working with insulin pumps, and education about self-management related hypoglycemia, hyperglycemia, chronic complications and foot care.
  • The RN, CDE will be expected to adhere to and abide by the rules and regulations set forth by the Oklahoma Nursing Practice Act.
Qualifications

Job Requirements:

  • 1-3 years experience in diabetes education preferred
  • Bachelor's in Nursing from an accredited school of nursing, required

  • Current RN license or current license deemed acceptable by the applicable State Board of Nursing

  • Certified Diabetes Educator certification recommended, or obtained within 3 years of hire

  • Maintains current BLS
