Unit Highlights
The Neonatal ICU at MedStar Georgetown University Hospitalis a 36-bed unit which provides expert nursing care for infants with manycritical diagnoses. It is one of two Level IV NICUs in Washington, D.C., whichis the highest level designated by the American Academy of Pediatrics. Some ofthe most seen diagnoses are:
Respiratory Distress SyndromeExtreme PrematurityNeonatal EncephalopathyPersistent Pulmonary HypertensionSepsis/Septic ShockNeurological DisordersGenetic and/or Metabolic DisordersGastrointestinal DisordersSurgical needs
Ours is the only NICU in the Washington, D.C. region wherea Clinical Nurse can participate in high-risk deliveries, be trained as an ECMOtech and participate in both flight and ground transports. Our NICU is themajor referral center for all MedStar-affiliated facilities, as well as severalcommunity hospitals in the tri-state area. Key Responsibilities
As a Clinical Nurse you will deliver proficient nursing care to patients and families whose needs range from uncomplicated to highly complex. You will identify current and potential complex problems of specific patient populations and critically analyzes trends and changes in patient status and plans appropriate interventions directly or indirectly through other nurses.
