Specific Requirements

Working knowledge of state and federal regulations.

Must be able to read, speak, write and understand the English Language.

Must possess the willingness to work harmoniously with professional and non-professional personnel.

Ability to recognize and later describe persons associated with nursing homes safety and security.

Qualifications

  • Graduate of an accredited school of nursing as a Registered Nurse. Currently licensed in the State of New York as an R.N. Knowledge of MDS, IV Certification and Supervisory skills preferred.
  • Associates and/or Bachelor's degree preferred.
  • Five years supervisory experience in Long Term Care.
  • Two years Hospital experience in a specialty unit preferred.
  • Knowledge of EMR, computer skills required.

Working Conditions

Sits, stands, bends, lifts and moves intermittently during working hours.

Is subject to frequent interruptions.

Is involved with residents, personnel, visitors, government agencies, under all conditions/circumstances.

Is subject to hostile and emotionally upset residents, family members, personnel and visitors.

Communicates with medical staff, nursing personnel.

Works beyond normal working hours and on weekends, holidays when necessary.

Is subject to falls, burns from equipment, odors, etc throughout the workday.

Is subject to exposure to infectious waste, diseases, conditions, including AIDS and Hepatitus B Viruses.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Reports to work on time, as scheduled in proper attire. Takes report from outgoing staff. Reviews 24-hour report sheet. Gives report at the end of the shift to oncoming staff.
  • Assumes responsibility to plan, organize and direct the resident activities of the Nursing Department assigned.
  • Utilizes 24 Hour Report sheet to review with incoming and outgoing RN Supervisory Staff.
  • Coordinates the services of nursing staff with differentiated but interrelated responsibilities to ensure residents receive the best possible care.
  • If required, administers medications and performs treatments, as authorized, in a safe knowledgeable manner.
  • Conducts admission assessments according to established guidelines.
  • Conducts assessments of all residents who have incidents and completes reports timely.
  • Reports and records, in precise and detailed manner, information regarding residents' response to therapy according to established guidelines.
  • PPE – Uses safe work practices for putting on and removing PPE, includes, gowns, masks, goggles/face shields and gloves.
  • EMR – completes and manages all documentation
  • Attends seminars, conferences and workshops relating to nursing/resident care to keep abreast of current issues.
  • Counsels' employees, making referrals where necessary.
  • Takes and receives report regarding resident information to the Oncoming RN Supervisor.
  • Reports any adverse conditions, incidents and resident related emergencies to DNS/Designee.
  • Members of various committees relating to interdisciplinary functions of the facility.
  • Oversees, administers disciplinary action as indicated.
  • Performs other related duties as required and all other unrelated duties as requested during an emergency.
  • Review complaints and grievances and make necessary oral/written reports to the administrator.
  • Represent the facility in dealing with outside agencies, including governmental agencies and third-party payees, or provide an authorized representative when unable to attend such meetings.
  • Delegate authority, responsibility, and accountability to other responsible department personnel.
  • Attend and participate in workshops, seminar, etc., to keep abreast of current changes in the health care field, as well as to maintain a professional status.
  • During an emergency assigned duties according to the needs of the facility, including non-related tasks.
