Why does the job exist?This position promotes public health and participates in the role of building healthier communities in New Mexico. This nurse supervisor exits to assure safe and effective provision of care at the SE Heights Public Health Office in Albuquerque, in collaboration with the department leadership (Regional Health Officer, Refugee Health Program Manager, Director of Nursing). How does it get done?Supervision, management, training and evaluation of nursing staff and ancillary staff at the Southeast Heights Public Health Office in Albuquerque.Collaborate with Refugee Health Program staff and community partners.Orient and train new nursing staff, provide ongoing training to established staff. Utilize Quality Management Techniques to maintain/improve staff productivity including supervision as assigned and ensure adequate resources to supports quality client care.Promote public health and participate in its role of building healthier communitiesCollaborate to maintain general clinic flow. Maintain clinic lab, pharmacy and vaccine programs per program guidelines Who are the customers?The customers are New Mexicans, with an emphasis on undeserved residents. Ideal CandidateThe ideal candidate for this position must possess and maintain a current New Mexico Registered Nurse license or be eligible for licensure in accordance with Nursing Practice Act 361-3-2 through 61-3-31 NMSA 1978 and 16-21-1 through 61-12-20 NMAC as applicable. The ideal candidate has experience:Working with racially and ethnically diverse populations.Supervising nursing and ancillary staff.Is an independent thinker, decision maker and self starter.Ensuring adherence to clinical policies, protocols and procedures. Specifically the delivery of care per standing orders and protocols. Ensuring compliance with laboratory and pharmacy regulations. Working in a team environment Minimum QualificationMust possess a current license to practice as a Registered Nurse in New Mexico OR eligibility for such licensure in accordance with New Mexico requirements OR Eligibility for a temporary license issued for employment at a specific institution in New Mexico and five (5) years of experience as it pertains to the essential duties and responsibilities of the classification. Employment RequirementsMust possess and maintain a valid Driver's License. Must possess and maintain a current Defensive Driving Course Certificate from the State of New Mexico or must pass and receive Defensive Driving Course Certification within six (6) months of date of hire as a condition of continued employment. Working ConditionsWork is performed in a public health office clinic, and on occasion at auxiliary or community sites with potential for exposure to communicable diseases. Work is performed in an office with computer usage and exposure to visual display terminals, standing, walking, bending and lifting up to 50 lbs required. Services are provided in a clinic with diverse racial and ethnic populations many of who do not speak the English language. Some travel may be required.
