Starting Pay: $16.13 to $19.50 DOE
Full-time, benefitted position working 80 hours per two week pay period in theRehab department. Days of work are Monday - Friday with hours from 7:00am - 3:30pm. Weekend work is variable and Holiday work is as needed.
The Rehab Access Specialist is responsible for verification of all patient accounts in an effort to assist with registration and ensure accuracy to decrease insurance claim denials. This position is dually responsible for insurance verification and referral process for all Rehab and Audiology providers. This position is responsible for verifying the accuracy and completeness of all registrations and has a great understanding of the admitting and registration process. This position has continuous interaction with all patients and staff.
Scheduling and Registration
- Greets patients and guests upon entering the hospital or assigned department, ascertain needs, and directs appropriately.
- Interviews patients, gathering information, including but not limited to; demographic data, insurance information, and obtains appropriate signatures.
- Acts as a receptionist by screening telephone calls and visitors for the Rehab and Audiology department staff.
- Interacts with patients of all age groups (infants, pediatrics, adolescents, adults, and geriatrics) while performing duties.
- Answers and screens calls in a prompt, pleasant, and efficient manner takes messages and communicates messages to the appropriate person in assigned area.
- Master phone etiquette for patient phone calls.
- Prepares and organizes the daily appointment/treatment schedule for assigned department clerk is supporting.
- Conducts reminder/preservice calls for service area supporting.
- Prepare and send patient letters
- Quick register or Pre-registers patients for all appropriate hospital departments, gathering information for the admission process, and giving instructions and other pertinent information to the patient.
- Make customer services calls to all scheduled patients, reminding patients of scheduled appointments and giving instruction and other pertinent information (especially estimated upfront pricing) to the patient.
- Verifies patient insurance.
- Works closely with Rehab Secretary to assist in inquires about preauthorization.
- Discusses payment arrangements with patients, receives payments and prepares receipts.
- Performs duties related to the admission thru discharge of patients.
- Inputs patient information into computer and, upon completion, distributes forms to appropriate personnel.
- Understands and able to follow a wide variety of insurance rules and guidelines to ensure care provided is covered by insurance.
- Works closely with direct patient care professionals for prior authorizations process of additional services that the patient may need.
- Works closely with the business office in reviewing denials and correcting billing and insurance errors.
- Takes referrals, schedules patients, compiles new charts, maintains current charts/records and enters patient information in the EMR.
- Knowledge of medical terminology.
- Maintains communication and promotes cooperation with other departments in regards to patient accounts.
- Check Work queues daily
Rehab duties
- Assists patients and visitors in the Rehab Department as needed.
- Assists with open and close of Rehab Department
- Prepares and keeps current all position forms and checklists.
- Assists in orientation of new staff to the Rehab department. Develops and maintains updates for orientation manuals. Trains new staff in workflows and provides education needed to perform job duties.
- Assists the Rehab Manager in coordinating the staffing schedule.
- Keeps Manager informed of activities and refers problem situations to Manager for resolution.
- Monitors workflow and scheduling to improve efficiency and quality of work performed by department employees.
- Assists with maintaining policies and procedures and record keeping systems for the department.
- Works on PC including Microsoft programs (Word, Excel, and Outlook) projects.
Audiology duties
- Assists Audiologist in scheduling, patient questions, and battery sales
- Assists audiology outreach scheduling.
Performs other related duties as assigned or requested.
High school level of knowledge preferred. Must be able to follow oral or written orders. Good written and verbal communication skills are needed
One year clerical experience required. Knowledge of medical terminology and insurance plans is beneficial.
