Position Summary As a Renewable Energy Senior Underwriter, you will be an important member of a small and entrepreneurial team of underwriters.The position may be based out of the following locations:
- New York City, NY
- Santa Ana, CA
- Houston, TX
- Other locations in the United States are not preferred but will be considered
The underwriter is required to evaluate new and renewal submissions as well as changes to existing policies. The role requires communicating and building relationships with brokers and other outside contacts, as well as maintaining files in accordance with company standards. The Underwriter will service brokers and clients throughout the US and Canada, as well has have regular interactions with our rest-of-world underwriting team based in Europe.
Key Responsibilities:Relying on experience and judgement, the Senior Underwriter is responsible for accomplishingthe following assignments. These assignments are varied in nature
- Candidates will have at least ten years of relevant experience, such as underwriting or brokering commercial liability and/or property, preferably within renewable energy, power generation, package or construction lines. Comparable risk management experience will also be considered.
- Minimum 4-year bachelor's degree
- Ability to travel as necessary, up to 20% of time, including site visits, conferences, internal and external meetings
- Property and casualty broker license; may be obtained within first year of employment
- Ability to work well in a team environment and act as a leader for colleagues
- Solid written and verbal communication skills with an emphasis on confidentiality, tact, and diplomacy
- Advanced organizational and analytical skills; demonstrated ability to manage multiple tasks simultaneously
- Knowledgeable of industry changes, legal updates, and technical developments related to the company's business to proactively respond to changing business environment
- Intermediate proficiency and experience using Microsoft Office package (Outlook, Teams, Word, Excel, PowerPoint)
Performance Objectives:
- During the first three months, gain an understanding of GCube's structure and insurance products.
- Respond to submissions and servicing items within agreed upon time frames.
- Evaluate risks for acceptability within established underwriting guidelines and determine appropriate, limit, deductible, endorsements, exclusions and class of business.
- Clearly and effectively communicate decisions with brokers and effectively respond to any ensuing inquiries.
- Create and maintain necessary files, such as underwriting files, rating worksheets, documentation of phone conversations, and other key documents according to departmental guidelines.
- Meet annual department goals for profitability, renewal retention, new business growth and rate.
- Cultivate relationships with internal and external contacts to promote business development and to remain abreast of industry trends
- Demonstrate a strong desire to work within a high-functioning, results-oriented team
- Show critical thinking skills by finding creative solutions to satisfy both clients and business needs.
