This is a full-time permanent eligible Research Faculty position in the Atmospheric Sciences Research Center (ASRC). These New York State supported college-year appointments allow for supplementary summer salary from external research funding. Areas of particular interest include hydrology, radar meteorology, and renewable energy (especially solar energy); however, outstanding candidates from other areas of atmospheric science will also be considered. Opportunities exist for successful candidates to exploit ASRC's world class facilities including the NYS Mesonet and Whiteface Mountain Field Station as well as UAlbany's nation-leading AI+ initiative. The Research Faculty will be expected to pursue and secure funding to support a robust research program and publish their work in academic (e.g. scientific peer-reviewed) journals. We expect the position to strengthen ASRC and the University by maintaining a strong externally funded research program, mentoring graduate students and postdocs and participating, as necessary, in service to the Center and the University.

Primary Responsibilities:

* Develop an active research program in their research area or areas.

* Actively seek resources from outside of the University to support this program.

* Prepare technical reports, conference presentations, summaries, and peer-reviewed scientific publications to communicate research findings.

* Support and maintain the University's national and international reputation for excellence in research.

* Build internal and external contacts and participate in networks (e.g., ad-hoc working groups, professional societies) for the exchange of information and to form relationships for future collaboration.

* Participate actively as a member of the University community; to serve on ASRC and University committees and organizations as appropriate.

* Advise and educate university students and/or postgraduate research staff through direct supervision, service on graduate steering/thesis committees

* Manage and administer sponsored research programs under your direction.

While not a requirement, research faculty at ASRC have the option of making arrangements to teach in the Department of Atmospheric and Environmental Sciences or other university departments.

Requirements:

Minimum Qualifications:

* Candidates must have a doctorate in atmospheric science, atmospheric chemistry, environmental science, physics, engineering, or a closely related field from a university accredited by the U.S. Department of Education or an internationally recognized accrediting organization. The doctorate must be completed by August 31, 2024

* Candidates must have a proven record of scholarship in their field and show promise for continued success.

* Applicants must demonstrate an ability to support diversity, equity, access, inclusion, and belonging relative to their role

Preferred Qualifications:

* Experience in any of the following areas: hydrology, radar meteorology, renewable energy (especially solar energy).
