  • Bachelor's degree in Criminal Justice, Political Science, Public Administration, or related field; with course work emphasizing advanced research methodology and statistical analysis in both automated and non-automated environments
  • Three (3) years previous experience in research and/or statistical analysis demonstrating the ability to conduct comprehensive study resulting in accurate reporting and recommendation of feasible and/or viable solutions, preferably for a governmental or similar public sector agency.
  • An equivalent combination of training and experience may be considered. Such experience must be clearly documented for consideration.
  • Nature of Work Under administrative direction, the purpose of the position is to conduct professional research in the study, evaluation, and analysis of one (1) or more assigned areas. Employees in this classification may be assigned to special studies, programs or projects, or may have responsibility for researching legislative and regulatory issues for the Broward Sheriff's Office. Position is responsible for presenting and/or incorporating findings into various print media, such as brochures, manuals, handbooks, graphics, charts, and statistical reports. Performs related work as directed. Essential Functions/Physical Requirements The list of essential functions, as outlined herein, is intended to be representative of the tasks performed within this classification. Performs statistical and evaluative research according to area of assignment, i.e., demographic, regulatory, legislative, Uniform Crime Reporting, historical, corrections, law enforcement, operating policies and procedures. Collects and analyzes data for the purpose of incorporating findings into various media according to area of assignment, i.e., pamphlets, manuals, handbooks, charts, graphics, statistical reports. Utilizes various statistical and evaluative tools in researching functions under charge, i.e., analysis software, legal references, periodicals, professional journals, print media, on-line systems, existing documentation, surveys. Presents findings and provides recommendations as applicable to assigned function, i.e., proposed policy and procedures, legislative impacts, improved work methodologies, needs assessment, technology enhancement, new products/equipment, trends and forecasting. Assists in agency budget and grant analysis through use of detailed analytical/statistical data. Functions as liaison with both internal and external entities in the conduct of work under charge. Maintains integrity of documentation and reports utilized, produced and/or distributed for reference and validation purposes. Provides professional level staff assistance to an administrative superior; assists and advises on matters pertaining to area of assignment. Attends, interprets, and testifies in proceedings when assigned to regulatory and legislative research function. Coordinates the response to surveys and other data requests for both internal and external entities; researches and compiles response data. Performs related duties as directed.Tasks involve the ability to exert light physical effort in sedentary to light work, but which may involve some lifting, carrying, pushing and/or pulling of objects and materials of light weight (5-10 pounds). Tasks may involve extended periods of time at a keyboard or workstation. Work is performed in usual office conditions with rare exposure to disagreeable environmental factors.
