Position Details Position Information Position Title Residence Hall Director Requisition # S01378P FLSA Exempt Location IIT-Mies Campus (MC), 10 West 35th St., Chicago Department Residence and Greek Life GENERAL DESCRIPTION The Residence Hall Director is a full-time, live-in, professional staff member responsible for the daily operations of a 250-650 bed residents hall(s) or on-campus apartments. The RHD directly supervises 9-12 Resident Advisors. The RHD is responsible for community development, administration, and supervision of a residence hall complex or group of residence halls. The Residence Hall Director, reports to the Associate Director of Residence Life, and is a member of the Office of Residence Life. The RHD supports the mission of the Office of Residence Life to promote inclusive communities that foster the educational and social development of students in safe and well-maintained environments. Departmental functions are centered on the core values of strong communities, student success, personal development, and collaboration. Based on a culture of innovation, excellence, and customer care, the Office of Residence Life will be recognized as a resource and leader in living communities and holistic development by students, campus partners, and other academic institutions. On- call responsibilities are shared for 1,200-1,500 residents. The salary for this role is $40,800 and is commensurate with experience. CUSTOMER SERVICE This individual provides customer service through student wellness checks, programming, move-in day, etc. The office also sends out a yearly Quality of Life Survey and is part of the Student Speak Survey. Special Schedule Requirements RHD should expect night, weekend, and holiday commitments. This will include weekend and late-night programming attendance as well as participation in a 4 person duty rotation, with 24/7/365 coverage. Qualifications Education & Experience Bachelor's degree required. 1-3 years of experience working with students in a higher education environment required. Master's degree in higher education administration, college student personnel, or related field preferred. Previous residence life experience and student supervisory experience preferred. Knowledge & Skills Ability to organize several projects and tasks with multiple deadlines; Ability to effectively interact with resident students and their guests; Ability to communicate effectively in written and verb form; Appreciation for and commitment to multiculturalism; Possess professional standards of conduct including a strong sense of ethics and confidentiality; SUPERVISION & BUDGET AUTHORITY Staff will work with training budget and programming budget. Staff may supervise 7-12 RAs (12 hours/week for academic year) and up to 2 office staff (up to 10 hours/week for academic year). Physical Environment and Requirements A live-in position is one where the individual maintains an on-campus apartment as their primary residence. RHD's must reside in an on-campus apartment throughout the term of their appointment. The department provides an apartment and meal plan to allow the RHD to be visible in their community, eat meals in the dining center, attend meetings and events regularly, and be able to respond to emergencies within their community.checking in with student concerns and conducting building rounds and facility inspections. None Key Responsibilities Key Responsibility Interview, select, train, supervise, and evaluate Resident Advisors Hold staff accountable for meeting performance expectations, including responsibilities outlined in the residential curriculum. Utilize departmental resources for staff development and training Provide staff members guidance about University policies and procedures. Percentage Of Time 25 Key Responsibility Establish a strong, positive learning environment within residential areas and the University community. Work with students in developing floor/building communities conducive for high academic achievement. Provide leadership in creating a community that supports students of underrepresented and diverse populations. Educate staff and students to self-enforce policies and respect the rights of others through community standards. Provide training and resource information to Resident Advisors Encourage maximum participation of residents in Hall Council and hall programs. Percentage Of Time 25 Key Responsibility Contribute to the development and facilitation of the residential curriculum. Serve as a partner in the student's total development by working with: Academic Advising, Career Services, Student Health & Wellness Center,the Office of Community Standards and other offices as warranted. Facilitate leadership opportunities and support all students in leadership development, specifically leadership events sponsored by Residence Life. Facilitate the discipline process to serve as an educational tool. Contribute to recruitment and retention programs and initiatives. Percentage Of Time 20 Key Responsibility Follow up on all discipline in an educational and timely manner with appropriate documentation. oWork collaboratively with the Office of Community Standards and Office of Student Affairs. Refer all mental health concerns to appropriate resources and maintain thorough documentation. Conduct student conduct meetings as appropriate. Engage family and/or other supports in creating success for students. Percentage Of Time 10 Key Responsibility Provide crisis management support and intervention, which may be required on weekends, at night, etc. Serve on an on-call duty rotation. Respond to additional emergency situations as necessary. . Develop a security program and coordinate emergency procedures, i.e., power outage, fire drills, medical emergencies, bomb threats, etc. Educate residents about emergency procedures. Maintain appropriate communication with Public Safety.
