We strive to enable residents to develop respect and responsibility for themselves and their community.The Coordinator is a vital part of the team in helping to continue the vision and mission of the department. They are responsible to an Area Coordinator/Assistant Director for supervising a staff of up to 20 Resident Assistants, as well as overseeing the daily activities of buildings housing up to 400 students. Responsibilities include but are not limited to:Supervision:Supervises Resident AssistantsConducts regular individual and group supervision meetingsEvaluates Resident Assistant's performanceProvides support and training for Resident AssistantsStudent Development and Residence Education:Assists with the planning, implementation, and evaluation of a residential curriculum for the areaAssists with the development and implementation of campus-wide initiativesAdvises student groups in the areaMakes referrals to University agencies when appropriateEncourages student involvement in residential and University engagement opportunitiesPromotes area governmentAdvocates for students by communicating their concerns and issues to the appropriate agencyAdvises individual students with academic, career, and personal concernsInterprets and enforces University and residence hall policies and proceduresMediates conflicts between and among students.Administration:Assists with the daily operation and organization of the area and the area officeHandles requests for room changes and contract releasesAssists in promoting the safety and security of area residentsAssists in developing and maintaining effective working relationships with Housing and Food Services, Safety and Security, New Student Programs, etc.Provides on-call duty coverage on a rotating basis, including over holidays, Thanksgiving Break, Winter Break, and Spring Break.Community Development:Demonstrates a commitment to students and the quality of their life in the residence hall environmentEncourages Resident Assistants to become well-acquainted with students in the areaAssists the Resident Assistants in developing and promoting a positive living environmentDemonstrates a commitment to diversity and social justice issuesPlans and implements curriculum in conjunction with Resident Assistants and studentsDemonstrates a commitment to staff and student retention and recruitment efforts, particularly as they impact members of underrepresented groupsMiscellaneous:Participates in committees and task force groupsAssists in the recruitment and training of professional staffAssists in the development and implementation of goals for the area and the residence hall systemPerforms other duties as assignedThis position will be filled as a Residential Education Specialist Professional or Intermediate Professional depending on the final applicant's experience and education. The Residential Education Specialist Professional requires a minimum of a Bachelor's Degree. Additional education and/or experience are required for higher-level positions.This position requires the following clearances: PA State Police Criminal Background Check, PA Child Abuse History Clearance, and Federal (FBI) Fingerprint Criminal Background Check.This position requires that you operate a motor vehicle as a part of your job duties. A valid driver's license and successful completion of a motor vehicle records check will be required in addition to standard background checks.This is a live-in 10-month or 83.3% FTE position. The ASR includes crime statistics and institutional policies concerning campus security, such as those concerning alcohol and drug use, crime prevention, the reporting of crimes, sexual assault, and other matters.
