The purpose of this position is to provide personal care and delegated nursing services designed to maintain the resident's physical and emotional well-being.FUNDAMENTAL JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:A. Essential Functions• Assist the client with personal cares which may include all or some of the following: shampooing of hair, assist with showering, rubbing with lotions, fingernail cares and foot cares if instructed to do so by an RN, medication administration, redirection of a confused client, and other cares as assigned.• Assist with dressing, grooming and oral cares as assigned.• Assist in use of hearing aids and glasses for clients.• Help each client to reach and maintain the highest level of performance and independence.• Observe client and report changes in physical and emotional condition such as change in attitude, loss of appetite, weight, etc.• Medication administration or assistance with self-administration of medications as delegated by RN.• Willing to help with special events, fill in for others to accommodate emergency situations.• Assist in transporting residents to activities as needed.• Take and record temperature, blood pressure, pulse and respiration as instructed. Report changes or concerns to LPN/RN.• Attend in-service training as assigned.• Assist with meals as directed, following special meal plans in instructed. • Dust, vacuum, mop and other cleaning and laundry chores as scheduled and assigned.• Assist in transporting residents to activities as well as leading activities as needed.B. Safety and Sanitation• Participate in all fire safety and disaster preparedness drills in safe and professional manner.• Provide and maintain safe caring practices of residents.• Follow all facility safety policies and procedures.C. Resident Rights• Adhere to the Resident Bill of Rights.• Protection of residents' confidentiality.• Report all grievances and complaints made by the resident to the appropriate licensed staff.In addition to the above essential functions, employee(s) must treat residents, staff and visitors with dignity and respect and must know Residents' Bill of Rights. Employee must adhere to good working habits.RequirementsGENERAL EXPECTATIONS:Must be able to work efficiently with frequent interruptions, be able to distinguish priorities in resident care and follow through with them, must be able to handle difficult and emotionally upsetting circumstances which involve the resident and/or family members.WORKING CONDITIONS:Occupational exposure to blood, other potentially infectious materials, and behavior of tenants will occur. Exposure to environmental conditions including dust, fumes, gases, and marked changes in temperature and humidity will occur. Employees may be required to perform duties at unprotected heights. EQUIPMENT USED:Medical equipment such as patient lifting devices, blood pressure cuffs and stethoscope, thermometer, oximeter, blood glucose monitoring devices, IV equipment, syringes, otoscope, transfer belts, wheel chairs, geri-chairs, commodes, walkers, scales and oxygen equipment. Personal protective equipment such as gloves, gowns, masks, and goggles or shields.QUALIFICATIONS NEEDED:Three to four years of high school, basic everyday living skills, the ability to understand and follow directions, and the ability to read, write, add and subtract are required. Must possess the ability to work well with people and show evidence of a sincere interest in resident-centered care; must be honest, loyal, neat, well-groomed and conduct self appropriately. Must possess the ability to make independent decisions in a timely fashion, while supporting facility policy, when circumstances warrant such action. Must possess the ability to deal tactfully with personnel, residents, family members, visitors, government agencies/personnel, and the general public. Must have patience, tact, flexibility, a cheerful disposition and enthusiasm, as well as the willingness to handle difficult residents. Must be willing to seek out new methods and principles and be willing to incorporate them into existing nursing practices.
