The Office of Residence Life maintains an Alternate List of potential Resident Assistants in the event of an opening during the 2022-2023 academic year. By applying, you are indicating that you would be willing to accept an RA position if one became available over the summer or during the academic year.

Resident Assistants are essential in creating a positive residential environment at North Central College. The quality of their effort signi?cantly in?uences the experience of all members of the residential community. The primary duties consist of supporting students in achieving their academic potential, developing a safe and welcoming community, planning and implementing programs for residents, assisting in the oversight of the residence hall, upholding College policies and serving as a resource for students living on campus. The individual who accepts this role must be genuine, ?exible, and capable of interacting well with others.

Resident Assistants are expected to arrive on campus for fall training as early as August 1, 2025 and the placement concludes 48 hours after commencement in May, 2025. Obligations for working during Fall 2024 RA training will be communicated by your Area Hall Director, and all RAs are required to participate. Resident Assistants are required to arrive prior to opening and stay after closing each semester, participate in all trainings including spring training, fall training, winter training and on-going in-service activities throughout the year, remain on campus throughout the entirety of Fall and Spring Breaks; as well as parts of Winter Break and May Term.

Community Building & Programming

* Build and maintain positive and healthy relationships with residents; be available in your area regularly.

* Help students develop respect for the rights, freedoms, and property of others by promoting an atmosphere of civility and respect.

* Foster dialogue, conduct, and interaction in the community that validates the identity and unique needs of a diverse population.

* Identify and assist residents with personal, social, or academic concerns; refer residents to campus resources when necessary.

* Create an environment that is safe, student-centered, and encourages accountability for behavior and decision-making.

* Maintain an interactive community suitable for socializing, studying, and sleeping that encourages the cultivation of friendships.

* Plan activities that meet the speci?c needs of your residents and encourages interaction, in addition to connecting individually with residents.

* Plan programs and activities each semester, in accordance with the Residence Life programming model.

* Participate in and facilitate Weekend Programming, provided through the O?ce of Residence Life and Student Involvement.

* Engage in an Intentional Interaction Program, provided through the Office of Residence Life during the first six weeks of the semester.

* Create and designs unique original door decorations, bulletin boards and hallway decorations.

Administrative

* Hold ?oor meetings as often as required by your Area Hall Director.

* Participate in a collateral assignment or committee related to residential living and complete all assigned paperwork.

* Assist with opening and closing of the hall each semester, and staying past published closing hours to facilitate building needs.

* Report facility concerns and work closely with maintenance and cleaning personnel to achieve a quality physical environment.

* Know and utilize emergency procedures as appropriate and regularly complete health and safety inspections per guidelines.

* Assume area on-call coverage responsibilities on a rotating basis.

* Participate in the O?ce of Residence Life staff selection process as needed/assigned.

* Fully uphold the NC Pledge and follow all COVID-19 policies, including the enforcement of both while serving as an RA.

* The Office of Residence is an Essential Department and RAs may be required to:

* Provide emergency response when it comes to inclement weather such as thunderstorms, floods, blizzards or snow days, tornadoes, etc.

* Assist during times of unexpected school closures.

Communication/Behavioral

* Promote a relationship between residence life staff, students, and Area Hall Council to coordinate activities and reach mutual goals.

* Familiarize residents with campus services such as the Dyson Wellness Center, Multicultural Affairs, Career Development, and other support services.

* Serve as a liaison between residents and professional staff, advocating for and supporting both entities.

* Distribute various types of information to and from the O?ce of Residence Life regarding policies, events and administrative matters.

* Collaborate with other o?ces to effectively program and reach the residential needs of residents.

Student Conduct

* Serve as positive role models who lead by example and set a high standard for responsible decision-making.

* Become aware of College policies and the Student Handbook to communicate policies and rationale effectively to residents.

* Adhere to federal, state, and local laws in addition to College policies.

* Promote a responsible community by upholding College policies objectively, documenting incidents and submitting reports promptly.

* Maintain good student conduct standing with the College and the O?ce of Residence Life.

* Know, understand, and support policies and decisions made by the O?ce of Residence Life and/or North Central College.

Miscellaneous

* Be in residence in your own room by 2:00 am each night. Nights away from campus must be approved by supervisor and are limited to one weekend a month.

* Receive explicit permission from your Area Hall Director when seeking additional employment on or off campus. External outside commitments should not exceed 10 hours per week; this includes receiving permission in advance for all vacations, trips, study abroad trips, etc.

* Understand that we may need to alter housing and RA assignments to ensure the best use of available space on campus, i.e.: changing a floor in an upper-class building to house first-year students. Be flexible and open if the nature of your community changes after placement.

* Discuss all commitments beyond the RA position regularly with Area Hall Director to ensure proper time management.

* Maintain full-time student status [12 credits]. Must seek permission from the Director of Residence Life if taking more than 18 credits.

* Cannot student teach during the Fall Semester, or serve as Orientation Leaders, Orientation Team Leaders, Premier Team Leader or the President of SGA, RHA, or Weekend Programing Board.

* Fully participate in and assist with Welcome Week Orientation, as determined by the O?ce of Residence Life.

* May be assigned other tasks throughout the academic year, including break periods.

Do the job duties for this position include any driving requirements? No Job Qualifications

* Must be currently enrolled as a student at North Central College, and have completed at least one term prior to applying.

* Cumulative GPA and current term GPA of 2.5 or higher (if selected, will be required to maintain both through duration of RA placement).

* A valid driver's license is preferred.
