The Resident Care Assistant (RCA) will perform direct care duties under the supervision of the Resident Care Director (RCD) and assist in maintaining a positive physical, social, and psychological environment for the residents. Qualifications: • The RCA must be in good standing and meet all applicable federal and state certification requirements. • Completion of high school or GED equivalent. • Must be able to read, write and follow oral and written communication • Must speak and understand English • Positive attitude toward those diagnosed with mental illness as well as the elderly. • Must have a positive Criminal Background Screening as required by the State of Florida. • Emotional maturity and sensitive to the needs of the mentally ill. • Certification in CPR and first aid preferred or as required by the state. Physical/Sensory Requirements (with or without reasonable accommodation): • Able to lift and carry loads up to 30 pounds. • Able to walk, reach, sit, stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl and stand for long periods of time; • Able to grasp, with fine hand coordination; • Able to push and pull; • Able to distinguish smells, tastes and temperatures; • Able to hear and respond to emergency and call system of residents Essential Functions: • Monitor each resident's physical and health care needs. • Assist with self-administration of medications and document appropriately in Medication Record. • Be constantly watchful for signs that residents are not able to function at their usual level or a change in behavior. Report all signs to the RCD following the Company policies and procedures. • Monitor resident health and mental status and report changes or unusual behaviors to RCD or other supervisory staff. • Provides assistance as needed with medication reminders, bathing, grooming, dressing, escort service, and other activities of daily living. • Supervise and assist residents during mealtime, when necessary. • Collect laundry and distribute linens and personal laundry. Make beds and straighten up apartments in accordance with Community procedures. Monitor cigarette smoking. • Contributes and is involved with the resident's assessment and the plan of care. • Follows the schedule of resident's needs set out by supervisor. • Provides emotional and social support to residents. • Promotes and protects resident rights, assists residents to make informed decisions, treats residents with dignity and respect, protects resident's personal belongings, reports suspected abuse or neglect, supports independent expression, choice and decision-making consistent with applicable law and regulation. • Oversee scheduled individual and group activities on a daily basis. Initiate individual and small group spontaneous activities as situations dictate and permit. • Informs supervisor any resident issues or concerns. • Building concerns or repairs • Performs other duties as assigned. • Is familiar with emergency equipment and procedures. • Understands duties during a fire drill and is familiar with evacuation plan. Attends all required training, in-service, and staff meetings. • Strives to maintain a safe working environment through the prevention of accidents, the preservation of equipment, and the achievement of safe working practices. • Maintains a positive and professional demeanor toward residents, visitors, families, and co-workers. • Provide warm welcome to all visitors. • Other duties as assigned. • Adheres to all policies and procedures of Merriment Assisted Living Residence • Maintain high standards of personal appearance and grooming. • Able to communicate with residents, families and personnel; • Able to remain calm under stressful conditions; The Community is a drug free workplace; associates are subject to adherence to the Company Drug Free Workplace policy.
