Title: Residential Aide - Asylum Shelter Location: TBD Salary Range: $34,000 - $34,000 FLSA Classification: Full-time, Non-exempt This position is non-exempt because the primary duties of ResidentialAides do not require them to perform work which requires advanced knowledge in a field of science or learning customarily acquired by a prolonged course of specialized intellectual instruction and study. Role Summary: We are seeking a dedicated Asylum Shelter Residential Aide to ensure the safety, security, and well-being of both asylum seekers and staff, as well as maintaining a secure and welcoming environment in compliance with asylum seeker-specific policies and operational procedures. Primary Job Responsibilities/Duties: The Asylum Shelter Residential Aide will be responsible for, but not limited to:
- Diligently monitoring asylum seekers, living units, dormitories, and facility premises to ensure the safety and security of each resident.
- Adhering to asylum seeker-specific shelter policies while following staff policies and procedures.
- Conducting essential administrative tasks, including maintaining detailed communication logs, documenting asylum seeker activities, behaviors, and engagement.
- Providing compassionate assistance to asylum seekers, addressing questions, and promptly resolving any arising issues.
- Thoroughly inspecting all items entering the facility to guarantee the safety of asylum seekers and staff.
- Monitoring video footage of common areas such as hallways, staircases, and lounges.
- Strictly adhering to safety, health, and fire hazard guidelines, organizational policies, and procedures, as well as the mission and values of the organization.
- Conducting regular hourly rounds of the facility.
- Promptly reporting any immediate safety hazards to appropriate supervisory or maintenance personnel.
- Collaborating with security personnel to ensure the safety of both staff and asylum seekers in the program.
- Preparing living spaces for vacancies, including emptying, cleaning, and properly tagging asylum seekers' belongings when necessary.
- Accurately documenting all incident details, participants, actions taken, and outcomes.
- Demonstrating flexibility in scheduling, including the possibility of working evenings, weekends, and holidays as needed.
Physical Requirements:
Ability to sit for extended periods and perform repetitive tasks.Must be able to lift and carry up to 25 pounds.Must be able to travel to multiple NYC sites as needed.Frequent bending, lifting, reaching, and extended walking. Ability to climb stairs. Work Environment / Schedule Requirements:
Office setting with regular exposure to computer screens and moderate noise levels.May be required to work shifts, including evenings or night tours and/or Saturdays, Sundays and holidays with holiday pay differential.Qualifications:
- NYS Security License preferred.
- F-02 Certificate of Fitness.
- CPR/Basic First Aid certification.
- Food handler certificate NYC/NYS.
- Ability to establish and maintain professional boundaries when working with asylum seekers.
- Prior experience in a residential facility is advantageous.
- Knowledge of HIPAA guidelines and standards.
- Exceptional written and verbal communication skills.
- Strong problem-solving and analytical abilities.
- Commitment to excellence and high standards.
- Demonstrated good judgment with the ability to make timely and sound decisions.
- Proficiency in assessing emergency situations and responding effectively.
- Bilingual (Spanish, French, Creole, or other languages) preferred.
- Must be able to read, speak, write, and understand English for administrative purposes.
- Must pass drug screening to be appointed.
- This position may be subject to a series of investigations before and after appointment.
