The Residential Community Safety Coordinator is an academic, full-time hourly position that reports to the Residential Community Safety Supervisor. The Residential Community Safety Coordinator assists in providing effective coordination and supervision of Residential Community Safety Officers (RCSO) and student Residential Security Aids (RSA). These positions may also be assigned to provide health, safety and security functions at other University buildings and at residence hall entrance security posts and provide meal break coverage to RCSO and RSA staff.
Education and Experience
* High school diploma or GED required. Associates degree preferred.
* Supervisor experience is preferred.
* Must be able to obtain a New York State Security Guard license and meet department and New York State Security Guard Act standards and qualifications.
Skills and Knowledge
* Ability to work independently or as part of a team and the ability to interrelate with individuals from diverse backgrounds.
* Ability to be creative and innovative in solving issues and problems.
* Good customer service skills and proven oral and written communication skills are essential. Assertive and helpful personality necessary.

Responsibilities
* Responsible for upholding employee accountability and exhibits DPS values of dedication and service to the community; protection of life and property; trust and integrity; respectful interactions; and empathetic and ethical conduct.
* Interacts with students, provides leadership and mentoring during interactions.
* Ensures that proper post coverage is deployed for all residence halls.
* Conducts continuous rounds, responding to staff requests for required meal breaks.
* Ensures that all employees are held accountable for existing standard operating procedures; including those related to post assignments, issued equipment and professional behavior.
* Prepares written reports regarding unauthorized access, including creating incident reports and judicial complaints.
* Coordinates the work activities of student RSA workers and RCSO professional staff: participates in hiring; scheduling; training; coaching; documenting discipline cases (as directed by a supervisor).
* Documents, using computers and handwritten logs, activities and events occurring during a tour of duty.
* When called for assistance by public safety officers, documents incidents of disorder in residence hall entry ways and common areas.
* Provides crime prevention and personal safety tips. When assigned, attends floor meetings and provides safety program presentations.
* Performs the duties of a RCSO as assigned.
* Other duties as assigned.
